A store that won't welcome working women - those who can't shop during the day, during the week - doesn't deserve their business. I found this store shut at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon - so went back home and shopped my heart out online. Got some very good deals too! I just moved here recently and was thinking I'd find a knitting community in a yarn store - but obviously it won't be in this one.

As a younger generation (20 something) knitter it is very frustrating to go into a knitting shop and see that everyone who works there is over 50. I am not discriminating especially because i did learn to knit from my grandmother, but it totally gives a vibe that knitting is for old ladies and, their selection of books and patterns reflects this. After hanging out in the store for a bit I noticed that anyone over 50 who came into the store was encouraged to share what project they were working on or to take a class. Not only that, the women kept whispering to each other behind the counter. Seriously? Very disappointed. This knitting shop will most likely die with these old ladies unless they work on their customer service skills and bring some 'chic-ness' into the store.

Shuttles has a two-fold reputation in Boulder: go there if you want to find great yarn, and by no means ever send a neophyte knitting friend there unless you want them to leave in tears. I have numerous friends who have stopped recommending Shuttles to their friends just because of the chilly and haughty reception new knitters often get. The owner, Maggie is a doll, and talking to her is a lovely experience. One just wishes that she had better judgment in hiring employees.

This is quite a big store, so they're usually pretty busy. Sometimes it can be hard to get help, not that they people aren't helpful, but they're just quite busy. It might just be when I go. They have tons of yarn, tons of books, and lots of back issues of Interweave Knits and a few other magazines which is something I'd never seen before. So many different kinds of yarn, mostly natural fibers, not a lot of novelty yarns. They do have both, just not so much of the later. They also have an English Sheepdog (I think), who hangs out in the store. Really nice dog. I like dogs. Good selection of needles too. Overall very nice store.
