Rudi's recently changed owners (a week ago) and the new owner - a wonderful woman named Lordes - is working super hard to restore Rudi's lustre. Rudi has been around for 30 years, and - while we've lived in Boulder for 10 years - we'd never eaten here. It's tucked away in a shopping center near Table Mesa and 36 in a cute office / house-like building. It's a little tired feeling, but comfy. The food was outstanding tonight - great selection, fresh, and "worldly" (I had Indian, Amy had curry, Maureen had chicken something, and Dave had lamb medallions.)
The portions were good sized, but not overwhelming. We had enough room for dessert and managed to scarf down a toffee mouse cake thing. Yum.

And that's an understatement. I went there with a date and my daughter and her boyfriend a while back and everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. We started out fine, with the waitress telling us about the specials, which sounded delicious. When the food arrived, my daughter, who had ordered ravioli, looked at the four forlorn pasta pieces in her dish as though they were meant to be an appetizer. It was, however the main course. Weighing in at a mere 110 pounds, it's not like she eats much, but this wouldn't have satisfied a bird.
The rest of us were equally unhappy with our selections and our portion sizes. Then, the waitress simply disappeared. Vanished. Poof! Finally weary of waiting for someone to fill our bread basket, I politely asked another wait person to either find our gal or do the honors. Well, they did eventually bring us another basket of bread--and one piece had been buttered and bite was taken out of it!! I kid you not!! They had obviously given us "re-used" bread from another table!! Unfortunately, I had taken a bite out of another piece in the basket before the "oversight" was discovered.
And what did they do do to apologize? They compted us one meal of the four we ordered!! And we had to ask for that much! PLUS-- they acted like it was no big deal. It was awful.
Obviously, a tip was not left. But, I'll give you one now. Skip Rudi's in Boulder!
