I love this place. It's got the down home favorites I grew up with and don't turn down suggestions. If you're hankering for paella though, don't get it here, its not good and they said it would be enough for two, but anyone who has been to/lived in Spain knows what paella is, and the Med. does not have it. but other than that everything is amazing and super yum and awesome and TRY THIS PLACE!
Pros: tapas, homey, drinks
Cons: can be busy, bad paella

OK, so there's alot of differing opinions about the Rio. The truth- it is one of the best places in Boulder. Nowhere else can u go for the atmosphere, overall food quality and delicious margarita. As a long time regular I'm going to lay out a set of rules to keep in mind if u have never been there and respond to the 'naysayers,' which is bound to happen when u serve as many people as the Rio does.
1- the price. u can be in and out with a margarita and entree for under 20$. Try that anywhere else in Boulder that isn't a dive inside like Juanita's. 2- to the one who complained about a chicken bone in her enchilada. This isn't taco bell, they use real chickens, which have bones. Did u know that?
3- The trick to the Rio is keeping things simple. Its high volume and cheap, so u cant expect "Frasca-like" service. Also the waitstaff is mostly college kids looking to pay their bills and have a good time while they work. I have met so many people that come every week, alot of families, because they know the faces and love the prices. Anywhere else in town you will pay 8$ and up for a margarita that has less tequila.
Did you know the Rio's has 3 shots of alcohol? Hence the 3 limit. 4- The rooftop patio is one of the best on earth. Problem is there is no kitchen or bar on the roof so things take longer, plus they have a whole downstairs with hundreds of hungry, thirsty people. How to avoid that? Grab a drink downstairs and carry it up, or order extra when the waiter "finally" arrives. Be patient, u are lucky to be served in such a beautiful place! 5- Cinco de Mayo at the Rio trumps any other Cinco party.
Menu tips- Bobby Flay isn't cooking, got it?
-Guacamole is amazing. Simple, delicious, no unnecessary ingredients.
-Burrito de Carne smothered in Green/spicy or ranchero sauce. So good, especially w/ a margarita!
-Cheese queso appetizer
-Enchiladas,Tostadas,Chicken Salads,Fajitas
-Agave Martini on the rocks= Top shelf margarita for 8-9$!
Pros: Awesome food, margaritas and service. Rooftop patio, "Garage" seats.
Cons: Can get a busy on weekends, but worth the wait!

Stumbled upon Japango looking for sushi happy hour while visiting Boulder. Had heard of other supposedly excellent sushi eateries in town, but this one was convenient and we were hungry. The Boulder roll was amazing...I have been craving it since. All the sushi was extremely fresh and creative. Our waitress was helpful and very friendly. We'll definitely be back on next, hopefully soon, visit!
Pros: Outdoor seating, great happy hour

I really enjoyed my experience here, not your average Mexican food. I found the menu to be extremely inventive. I ordered the shrimp mojo for my dinner, and it was delicious. The food was much fancier than a typical Mexican restaurant, but the prices and the atmosphere made it casual and unpretentious. The tequila selection is incredible and the staff is extremely knowledgeable about their product. I never thought drinking could be so educational. My waiter in particular was charming. I would recommend Tahona for a nice dinner or just to hang out with some friends. One of the best meals I have had in Boulder.
Pros: Fine Dining in a casual atmosphere
Cons: Parking on Pearl Street can be annoying

This is one of my favorite places to eat, ever. The food is amazing, the ambiance is awesome and entertaining and informative all at the same time, and the owners are really nice and are there often. They have their own beer, Sherpa Ale, which is [i wish i could drop the f-bomb here] awesome and I never go there [even when I just pick up a call in order] without grabbing a Sherpa Ale. And I love to over-order and eat it cold and/or warmed up, its so good.
Pros: everything; sherpa ale! owners.
Cons: n/a

I have been to many wonderful restaurants throughout the years, but the Red Lion has the most beautiful setting I've found. Their game is masterfully prepared and the Steak Diane (prepared tableside) is the most mouthwatering dish I've had in years. I've also had the roasted quail , Australian lobster tail, and buffalo stroganoff; and I can't wait to try more of their dishes. I haven't had a mediocre or bad one yet!
Besides the food, the service is beyond compare. I never once had to wait for anything. The staff was knowledgeable, courteous, and pleasant.
The best part about this restaurant is the creekside dining. Imagine that you're sitting next to a babbling creek nestled in the heart of Boulder canyon, sipping champagne, and blocking out the stresses of everyday life! If you can imagine how great that would be, then you should make a reservation and make it come true! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!
Pros: creekside dining, great food, incomparable service
Cons: none
