The help is legendary -- you enter with a problem and leave with a solution.
You can buy small quantities of what you need at McGuckins or
buy larger quantities than you wanted from a smaller selection at Home Depot.
The reason McGuckins looks sooo much smaller than Home Depot is
that McGuckins has a large warehouse outside the city.
Many is the time that I've told a salesperson at McGuckins that
"The advice is so valuable that I must be getting the hardware for free"

I was doing a return at this store and encountered the rudest cashier in the world. He asked to see my ID for the return, so I showed it to him and he said "take it out of the wallet, now"!. Well, I got rude, and he got rude, some inappropriate language was used on both sides (cashier dude threatens to haul me over the counter to get my ID out of my wallet), and then I was accosted by the "Cashier Supervisor", who told the guy to take a break. She then started yelling at me, and then the "security guards" showed up. I was taken outside, and explained the situation. Then they let me back into the store to conclude my transaction, and I asked the "Cashier Supervisor" why she had yelled at me and did nothing to defuse the situation. She said: "I hate people who screw with my staff". So, this did nothing for my temper, so I told her to F**k herself (in a reasonable tone of voice. I never yelled or touched anyone at any time). The lead "Security" person grabbed my credit card, and yelled: "This way mister!", making a spectacle of himself. I followed him back to the secret room where they scare teenage shoplifters. He, one other guard and the store manager started yelling at me. I'm no saint, so I gave as good as they gave, and I also made my opinions concerning their store known. Then, the lead security person, and insults me for a few more minutes. He calls me old, psycho, rude, in need of medication, and he tells me that "If I ever see you in this store again, I will deal with you"! To which I replied: "If I ever see your on the street...".
I was then "banned" from McGuckins "for life", and had my picture taken, which puts me into the same category as a shoplifter. I nothing dishonest. My only fault was losing my temper in public and using the F word. I did not scream, yell, or harm or touch anyone. I have never been so humiliated.
I had been a loyal customer for over 12 years and have spent over 12K dollars over the years.
Hello Home Depot!

This is a true Boulder gem. From kitchen to plumbing and anything in between. Talk about service- this is where it all started. There are collage students and a few folks that look like they belong in a nursing home working here. That gives you equality and knowledge. A true old school Boulder business that gives and caters to everyone. If you can't find it here...........they will inform you where.
We like going here when we have time to just burn. The prices could be better but if you look close not by much.
Please support and help keep this hardware store alive and well in our town.
Pay the few cents extra, stay away from the big boxes and shop at McGuckin's whenever you can.

On Feb. 18, 2007 at 4:30pm me & 2 of my roommates went to McGuckin Hardware & bought 2 fuses for our soda vending machine. When we first came in I picked up a pair of tacky cheap sunglasses and wore them down an aisle jokingly asking my friends if it was my look. They said so no & I put them down. On our way out the door I was approached by two plain clothed men who did not identify themselves. They got in my face & started asking questions about a pair of sunglasses. We thought they were 2 crazy homeless guys so I tried to just go around them. It was at this time that the men took more aggressive measures. They would not let me leave. They started accusing me of theft and demanded that I reenter the store and retrace my steps. They demanded for me to open my pockets and lift my shirt. They just kept hassling me and hounding me I had no idea where these sunglasses were. They were calling me a liar. I couldn't find the sunglasses and got fed up with their unfounded accusations and thus left. When I returned home I called the manager. I told him that right after I made a purchase with them they accuse me of theft and he began to get short with me. I told him that the men who approached me did not identify themselves as McGuckin employees. I also told him that they were very rude and aggressive. None of this seemed to bother him. In fact he told me that just shopping at McGuckin's was my privilege and that if a customer picks up any item and places it anywhere other than the exact location where it was found that they are acting suspicious and can be searched. I told him that I shop at McGuckin??????s often and that I was both shocked and disappointed by this incident. He talked down to me just as rudely as the two plain clothed men did. Never in my life had I been so insulted and humiliated before. I have never stolen anything in my life. They showed no remorse when I show

Never in my life had I been so insulted and humiliated before. I have never stolen anything in my life. They showed no remorse when I showed them that I didn?t have the sunglasses. They handled the incident with extreme arrogance.
Cons: Arrogant & unapologetic staff that will make BIG accusations and will humiliate you in public. If you are going to accuse someone of theft you better be right!!

if you are questioning yourself on how exciting a hardware store could be? Check this place out. McGuckin's has IT ALL, and tons of variations of everything to boot! The sales people are very helpful, and for some reason know where everything is. The place is jammed with stuff, but not in a cluttered, grandma's house type of way :) it's just got something for everyone! Their products are very good quality, but can be a little more expensive than other place, but where else can you go to get such variety? They have some interesting items there too, very inventive ideas! It's a fun place to shop, or even just to browse. It gives off a clean, spacious, greenhousy type of feel. Check it out!

If you need it, McGuckin's got it. Seriously! It's WAAAYYY more than just hardware. This store is jampacked with everything from dog bones to houseplants, kitchenware and camping gear. The place is teeming with friendly, green-aproned employees to offer assistance. And you might think a mom and pop store like this is way more expensive than the chains, but I've found some really great deals there. McGuckin is loved by the locals and is becoming a Boulder icon.

I'm a romantic for old-town hardware stores. McGuckin's is the most magical new-town hardware store I've encounterd. They do, in fact, have everything. Considering the easy access we have to 'everything' these days, inventory is not the magic ingredient. You'll have to go yourself to find out how the set themselves apart from corporate chains Sutherlands, Home Depot, etc.
