The food was OK. I would agree for Bothell, it would be one of the better places to go for Thai food. The location is good, with plenty of parking at the back. The service was so, so on the day I visited. The restaurant is nicely decorated inside and is clean. I would consider the price of food fair, BUT they charge for refills. This would be fine if the servers told you this when you ordered, but on the occasion I visited; I was not informed of their policy. I might sound like at tightwad, but this is the first time I have ever been charged for a refill and in all honesty I am still in shock! I eat out two to three time a week, I have eaten in some high end restaurants and not so high end. I have NEVER been charged for a refill. In my opinion, Pen Thai is not so special a place that I am willing to pay for refills. I can go a few miles up the road to Thai Bistro - Mill Creek, where the food is on par with that served at Pen's, the service is friendly and I can drink all the diet coke I desire.

Our shop used to spend $90.00 every Thursday until the quality of the food went down hill and I found a hair in the Crispy Chicken. Tonight we decided to try again after a year and the food was worse and the prices were raised on some dishes 30%. Penn used to be great, what a shame.

Not only does Pen Thai have the best thai food in the area, but the atmosphere of the restaurant is very calm, and makes you feel as if you were in Thailand!

Pros: Nice wait staff
Cons: Quality of food has deminished, not to mention the surprize addition of wildlife in the soup

I went there for dinner last night with 9 gals from work. I called about an hour before we were to arrive just to be sure they had a table large enough to accomodate us. We arrived at 5:15 pm and there was our table, waiting for us. We were seated promptly, they didn't mind that we were waiting for 1 more member of our party. Of course we ordered appetizers and drinks as we were waiting. The food was fresh, hot, tasty, and delivered very quickly. For appetizers we ordered the Crab Rangoon, a really neat corn fritter special, and the spring rolls. For dinner, WOW, talk about a great selection, the Emerald Curry was as good as a previous recommendation said it would be. If you LOVE garlic you must order the garlic prawns-you won't be dissapointed. Sizzling duck, Phad Thai (for the thai food virgin in the group), sizzling veggies, heavenly beef, etc. Needless to say, there was no room left in any of us for dessert.
The restaurant filled up very quickly, but at not time did we ever feel rushed by the staff. I highly recommend Pen Thai and I will be returning. Soon!

Absolutely wonderful.
The prices are reasonable, the crispy anything with basil is delicious, a hint of sweet under the spicy, and it's excellent no matter how spicy you order it. The crab wontons are wonderful, with a plum sweet and sour sauce (not the ordinary fluorescent orange stuff you usually get). They have the appetizer (can't remember its name) where you wrap six ingredients (dried shrimp, toasted coconut, peanuts, chunks of lime, ginger, and chilies) in leaves with plum sauce, and that's a fun appetizer to share.
If you order the Tom Kha, I don't advise the vegetarian version, it came with too many weird vegetables for my taste.
On weekends, they're really busy, and the service suffers from it, the service is much better during the week.
If you really, *really* like spicy food, ask for the chili tray. They'll bring you a tray of four different kinds of chilies to add to your food, the combination of the four is pretty much guaranteed to make any dish as flaming hot as you could possibly want it.

Disclaimer: My wife is Thai, so I have special knowledge that this restaurant serves good food but which is far from authentic. The food seems to be a fusion of Thai and western, with maybe a French influence, and as such, there are some hits and some misses. Their fried rices are very good, albeit sweet (and if you don't like sweet, you can ask for it to not be so). A couple of their entrees, e.g., the one that's seafood wrapped in foil (forget the name) is hit-and-miss: I've had that entree when it's excellent, and also when it's quite mediocre. One thing that must be mentioned is the quality of the wait staff: There are lots of attractive, young, friendly (mostly Thai) people working here, and that adds to the pleasure, imho. Nice location in downtown Bothell, and there is parking in the back and a back door!
Pros: atmosphere, wait staff
Cons: food is somewhat hit/miss
