There are some great deals here, but you have to dig for them, literally. They have tables of slothing organized by brand and you have to dig through the piles in order to find you size and style that you would like. There are some hanging on racks and a vault that has some very expensive designer clothing. It is always fun to shop here and to see the deals that you can get, it just takes a lot longer than normal. Leave the guys at home for this store!

Thankfully, Filene's Basement is sticking around despite the closing of Filene's itself. After all, this place has some amazing bargains. If you don't want to pay full price and don't mind putting up with crowds, complete disorganization, and a shared fitting room experience, then you must come here. Oftentimes, the merchandise is exactly like what you find in more expensive stores at the moment, so you can walk out of here chic but not having spent all your hard-earned cash.

Their automatic markdown system is a catch 22...I almost never buy anything because I feel the need to wait till it goes down more, since they tell you the exact day and amount it'll be marked down. Tricky! They also have some kind of yearly bridal sale that's supposed to be madness.

I wish I still lived in Boston if only for Filene's Basement. if you want to find a great deal at a great price this is the place to go. they bring everything from "upstairs" to "downstairs" in the basement and you can find stuff that was $200 for $10-15...well, sometimes. you do have to dig and plan to spend some time if you want to find the best bargains

Filene’s Basement is one of the places everyone should go to once, just to have the experience. Imagine being thrown into a huge pile of clothing and having to swim your way out, preferably without bumping into other people, while finding something to buy. That’s Filene’s Basement. Be sure to have lots of time and patience on your hands because you really have to look carefully to find clothes worth buying. And be sure to wear your nice underwear since the fitting room is just one giant room, not divided into small changing closets like most clothing stores.

Filene's Basement is an interesting place to shop. Some people love it but not me. I have no luck finding things there; it's really hard and takes a lot of time. They do have a huge bridal sale and a formal gown sale. I did find a formal gown.
The prices are OK but it takes a long time to find things. Go when you have lots of time to spend. The frames and gifts are nice reasonably priced. It's a lot like Marshall's.

If you are looking for a watch or some nice jewelery, Filenes Basement is the place. They also have great pajamas and lingerie for reduced prices. The thing I found out thats great is the automatic markdowns. If an item has been sitting on the shelf for longer than a certain amount of days, they take off a certain percentage. You have to look at the back of the tag to see the date posted and then look at the sign that tells you how much you can deduct. You can get some great deals this way.

Filene's Basement in Downtown Crossing is HUGE and they have a great selection of designers brands. This is not my favorite Filene's Basement for clothing but they do have a great selection it is just that I get overwhelmed. You need to be in the mood for bargain shopping and have some time to look through everything or be there for something specific. They also have a great selection of jewelry, gourmet candy and crystal.

Filene's Basement can be overwhelming and unpleasant unless you're prepared. Make sure you've eaten and had your coffee before you go. Be prepared to do some digging in the rectangular bins with the featured merchandise. Be aware that the dressing room has no privacy and no stalls, just hooks and mirrors and a clamor of clothes flying. Women, you can avoid a checkout line by slipping into the men's department. The shoe department is especially good, and you can also get really good lingerie (Calvin Klein, Wacoal) and coats almost ridiculously cheap. Men can often find good suits and leather jackets here. The Automatic Markdown signs hang from the ceiling; if you like an item, turn the ticket over and check the date. Calculate your discount. Whole racks of Automatic Markdown merch have yellow signs. And, beware the Running of the Brides sale, although you can get some serious designer dresses for a pittance - if you don't get trampled by deal-crazed brides first.
