Hootenany offers your standard slate of "alternative" apparel in a more tolerable environment than your local mall's Hot Topic. The clothes here are super expensive, but check out the accessories and the other odds and ends for some fun, more reasonable finds. Plus, be sure to check out the bulletin board outside the store for one of the best listings of local events.

Hootenanny takes the place of beloved Allston Beat (at least as it was in the early 90s) for all your somewhat overpriced punk/indie/goth gear. The selection is great, and if you've ever wanted bondage pants or T.U.K. platform pumps, you're in the right place. It's a fun place to poke around and imagine your alternate life or even secretly supply your real one. Tulle petticoats, vinyl corsets, studded belts and Paul Frank PJs - it's all right here. Also a small selection of Urban Decay makeup if you don't feel like schepping across the river to Sephora. The shoe selection is especially fun, at least for women, and there's always a sale section.

This place caught my eye; that is, until I saw the price tags. They have incredibly cute and scenester-friendly clothing and accessories, but the prices are insane! The staff isn't incredibly personable, but that's typical for these types of places. If you've got the money to throw around, go here. If you're a broke college student, like me, then seek elsewhere. Definitely.
