There's a lot here that's the best part of Virgin Megastore. The worst: $$$$! It is sooo pricey! If you are stuck near Newbery Street with nothing to do for a n hour though it is awesome, the book section is a very entertaining browse and the music listening machine thingys let you hear before you buy (somewehere else!).

I never buy anything at Virgin because I can usually find it cheaper at Newbury Comics. However, Virgin has an awesome thing: listening booths where you can scan any CD in the store and play a track on headphones. Their magazine selection is good, as is the DVD selection. And on the top floor are interesting books with a pop culture bend. The store is huge and can be overwhelming, so pace yourself.

Virgin Megastore (the old Tower Records to the locals) is a great store - with 3 floors of music and excellent live performances in their cafe on the 3rd floor on the weekends from local Berklee students and others in the area. The techno/house section is my favorite on the 2nd floor in the left corner behind the escalators, great assortment and when you catch a sale, the prices are great. I also love the international selection on the 3rd floor, although I wish they stocked more Italian, Turkish and French pop music, I was still happy to see some of my favorites like Thailia, Nek, Laura Pausini, Paris Combo, etc. Virgin has a lot of DVDs, some gifts and a light assortment of books, although their book section isn't arranged or stocked too well. Over all, I'm really happy with the store and love the listening stations - great! (edited 12/20: this store closed to be replaced by best buy. so sad)

It isn't called Megastore for nothing. They have a pretty wide selection of movies and music, you can literally make a trip to Virgin an outing. They also have mini listening stations where you can scan CD's and listen to anything in the store. On the top floor, there is also a little snack bar, which I've never tried, but found interesting. Best time to go is when they are having sales. They occasionally offer some great sales.
