If you're sick of eating Chinese food but still want Asian, then head to nearby Penang in Chinatown. The restaurant is busy, but the food comes quickly and there's always takeout. The food is also tasty, and there's a good variety of dishes on the menu. The atmosphere isn't bad, though you obviously won't get the fanciness of a five-star establishment.

The food is usually good (I've never had a bad experience). Try the roti, it's quite good. I'd also recommend the Malaysian Buddhist. Rice costs extra. Both the Harvard and Chinatown locations get really crowded. If you're going in a group, prepare to spend a long time figuring out the bill, they won't split the check for you.

I have never had Malaysian food before, so a friend and I experimented. For appetizers we had the sampler which included fried tofu, some sort of neat egg thing, and a couple of other items that were flavorful and sort of unkown to me. Just grab the chopsticks and dig in!
For dinner we had the mango shrimp and the curried chicken. The curried chicken was boring, bland, and a huge disappointment. However, with one bite of the mango shrimp and all was forgiven. It arrived in two hollowed-out mango halves, large succulant shrimp tossed among shreds of mango, in a golden orangey red sauce. The taste was heavenly. The shrimp was tender (cooked Asian rare rather than American rubber)and the flavor was sweet and sour and spicy all at once.
We also drank their non-alcoholic coconut drink -- ricey and sweet and very refreshing with the spicey food -- and tasted Malaysian beer. It was quite good.
This is a great restaurant with great food and terrific ambiance in the heart of one of the great cities.

Don't be scared of the chicken feet! Though Penang offer's some weird food choices, they have awesome asian foods for those of us that are less adventuresome. I highly recommend the Beef Rendang or the Sizzling Spicy Beef Platter. The take out service is great, but the restaurant itself is like a little bamboo hut that is fun to eat in. Service is friendly and efficient. Best bang for the buck!

My favorite asian fusion restaurant! I ALWAYS order the roti canai for an appetizer (two of these, and it's a meal all in itself!!) LOVE! Thai iced coffee and the mango chicken are musts as well

It was my first time trying Malaysian food. I met up with some friends there. The place wasn't too big but wasn't small at all. The food was good. I had a mango chicken entree. Service was good except for the waiting constantly asking us if we wanted anything else (to order). I would definitely go again if I wanted some more Malaysian food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants around Chinatown. The Malaysian food there is excellent, and the price is not too high, quite affordable, although, not as cheap as the dishes from most Chinese restaurants. The size of the dishes are modest, not too small, but not too large either. The ambiance there is not too bad, quite relaxing.
