While in Boston, our concierge recommended Stephanie’s Restaurant for dinner. We walked from the hotel on a nice, fall evening and had an absolutely wonderful experience along with a very tasty dinner.
When you approach Stephanie’s, you walk through their expansive outdoor seating area on the beautiful and exclusive Newbury Street. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a very friendly yet professional staff member and visually treated by a roaring fireplace and soft, ambient lighting spilling onto luxurious dark wood surfaces. The staff member didn’t ask for our name when inviting us to take a seat in front of the fireplace to wait for a table, yet he got everyone seated in the order in which they had arrived and the wait time was so minimal it’s not worth mentioning. Stephanie’s is not the type of place where they’re yelling names out and creating chaos. Instead, the staff there is each a positive contributor to the adult ambiance. There are no “Happy, happy birthday!” songs being screeched out several times an hour! Thank GOD.
Our meal was absolutely flawless and our waiter’s exuberance was nothing short of delightful. I had THE best spinach salad I have ever had in my entire life! My fiancé had the Italian Sausage Orchiette which he said was fabulous. I was torn between the salad and the salmon, so our waiter suggested I have some salmon on top of the salad! Excellent!! The breads brought to the table to tide us over before the meal were also very different and delectable. My mouth is watering just remembering that meal!
Check out Stephanie’s web site http://www.stephaniesonnewbury.com/ where they not only have their menus, directions, reviews, etc, but also a virtual tour. Our concierge categorized the restaurant as “great American food” and Stephanie’s web site calls it “sophisticated comfort food.” I think they’re both right, but I simply call it “perfect”. Oh, how I wish we had a Stephanie’s in the Seattle area!

When I first found this restaurant 5-6 years ago, it was from an invitation from my Caucasian friend. And, I loved the food the prices were right around $18-30. Since then I had a numerous trips to this place with different friends to introduce some decent meal on Newbury st.
However, I have to strongly advise that this is definitely for the wasps at its worst that are eager to crush other customer’s mood by being loud and arrogant. But I have to address that the food and the waiting is excluded from my review as they are quite decent. But the management keeps upsetting me and other reviewers as you can see below.
Here are my incidents with the Hosts;
1. racially biased and scoffing hosts,
2. strong preference of 20-30 some year old girls, with designer attires over casual dressers
3. Terrace table cover chargee $15 +
4. If you don't look waspy enough, they will not give the seat first or put you on the corner table after a long waiting4.
5. Arrogant Host/ess often scoffing at you if you have any complaint.
6. The restaurant's ownder is well-known for his Notorious TV Commercials for Medical Law Suits that shake the state government system. Jim Sokolove, and his wife's name is Stepahnie.
7. I left a complaint regarding these humiliating experiences over the years. But the owner never returned a call.
So, if you are a white female in their 20-30s, with bleached blonde hair and luxurious handbags, with the wispy attire with loud voices, go ahead and enjoy the food. But, please, don't get too loud drinking cocktails before 11am. But if you are black, Latino, or Asian or older or not so wealthy looking, be prepared to be taken like secondary people. Even if we pay the same money and have same good expectation for good food and services, they will make you feel like an outsider, not a customer. Just sit, eat and leave, just like at McDonald's.
Or, walk away if any of them show a sign of arrogance as there will be no way to correct this arrogant management. This place is truly the worst spot to witness the bean town’s notorious attitude problem.
"Charley's" on Newbury St is better without cover charge $10-15 during the summer, and yes, the food is good if not better. I just feel sorry for the chefs and Waiter/esses at Stephanie's for working with the wrong owner/ host/esses.

I recently went to Stephanies on Newbury, wonderful food, quite pricey and very snooty! So if you're trying to impress someone, this seems like the place to be on Sunday mornings! The portions are very large, so they aren't skimping, but expect to pay about $15 or so per dish. I noticed a number of people sharing entrees. The most ridiculous thing was that they had muffins (very average ones) for $4.95 - that was ridiculous, but other than that, it was very nice.

I've only been to Stephanie's once, but once was more than enough. They don't have much in the way of vegetarian options, and why do they charge $20 for mac & cheese? That's just ridiculous. I will say that the one time I was there, I was seated by the window and when I looked over, a woman was vomitting into the snow...now, I don't know if she had just eaten at the restaurant, but I thought it was a sign.

Stephanie's menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches (try the honey mustard ham sandwich), and entrees that are very well done (not to mention the iced tea). The atmosphere is classy, but we were waited on by this person who did not pay attention to us until it was time to pay the bill. I am very disappointed with my experience and will never recommend this restaurant to anyone because of the experience. Which is really sad, since the food is fabulous.
