It's bizarre to go to Chinatown for Japanese food, but that's where the conceirge at XV Beacon sent us (he's either got a deal with Ginza or has the hots for the waitresses in the Japanese kimono things.)
The sushi was good, but not "spectacular" as promised (the menu was standard - kind of boring actually.) The service, however, was superb. The food came fast, it was nicely presented, and the waitress was engaging.
The price was reasonable. The decor was ok. We were happy, but not delighted.

if you're in chinatown, why don't you get chinese food? oh well, if you want japanese food, ginza is a well known japanese restaurant with a few locations (others in boston, brookline). the waitresses wear awesome kimonos and those cute japanese sandal shoes. it sets the atmosphere to be like you're in japan. the food is good too, but kinda pricey (because you're in chinatown). the sushi is fresh and the rice plates are portioned so you won't have any left overs.

Ginza Japanese Restaurant is one of the best places to go for sushi in Boston- and this location in Chinatown is convienient to the area's most busy districts- the financial district and Downtown Crossing. They serve excellent Japanese cuisine mostly specializing in seafood- try the maki maki- it's to die for. Service is courteous and efficient. Prices are average for sushi in the area- not cheap for small portions, but excellently prepared.

As close to a orgasmic experience as I can think of involving dead raw fish. They're open until 3am, mostly because they serve the late-night theater crowds in the area. It is decidedly not cheap, but their soft-shell crab roll almost makes it worth it on its own; get it at the sushi bar, so it's still very warm by the time it gets to you. The portions are generous, and the fish is very fresh. The service was a little bit slow, but it's fairly efficient once they notice you've sat down.
