I will never turn down a La Verdad taco. I am originally from California and good mexican food is severely lacking in Boston. For some reason, corn tortillas are not that popular here. Sadness. Then La Verdad came around and changed everything. The corn tortillas in all of the tacos here are made fresh and are awesome. I order a side order of them and eat them with the guacamole, which is equally as good. The shrimp tacos are covered in "governor's sauce" which should probably just read "delicious sauce." Beef tacos and carnitas are great. The only issue I have with this place is that the fish tacos are not as good. The fish breaded and deep fried, and I prefer grilled fish in my tacos - I'm not exactly sure what style is "authentic" but i've only ever had grilled fish for fish tacos in san diego and mexico. Oh yeah, the house margarita (la verdad margarita) is the BEST margarita in Boston. They make their own sour mix, which is key. Pros: Great food made me miss home Cons: Fish taco

We ate at laverdad on tuesday this week and the food was outstanding. They have a deal on dollar tacos i had three chicken and one of the pork tacos. The chicken was roasted with a spicy BBQ rub and was so juice it also had refried beans and red pickled onions on the top which made the taco. The pork was marrinated in pinapple and orange juice and was topped with this amazing green salsa made from avacados. I came in about half an hour before my wife did and I waited had some chips and guacamole and a margaritta while i waited the server was very intetive to me and when she had time chatted with me as well intil my wife showed up everything was amazing Pros: great food drinks and service Cons: lights where really low could bearly read menu

FISHTACOFISHTACOFISHTACO. I freaking love fish tacos and I'm proud to say it. I thought I would find no equal to fish tacos I'd had in California, and then I was introduced to La Verdad. Sweet little handmade tortillas, flaky perfectly battered fish, some shredded cabbage and 3 sauces-avocado puree, chipotle mayo and crema which expode in a tangy ooze outa the sides of the taco and down your face. But who cares, you've found nirvana. The corn is perfect, chargrilled with chili powder, cheese mayo and lime. The watermelon agua fresca seemed to have a little added sugar, but was delicious nonetheless. I can't wait to go to the restaurant, which was closed when we were there, as it has the kitschy cavernous look of a Southern California mexican restaurant, with colorful light fixtures and wrestling masks and generally an ambiance as larger than life as the food. I had heard a great deal about La Verdad since it opened, but was very disappointed after finally paying a visit. The restaurant was fairly empty when my dinner companion and I arrived, roughly 5:00 on a Saturday. There was no host/hostess, and it took several minutes before somebody finally came to seat us. We were seated at a table near the bar, and a group of 4-5 employees were all socializing, swearing and not working right behind us for the bulk of our meal. This is unacceptable, even though it was not busy. If you are not going to work, do it somewhere where the customers don't have to hear about your weekend plans. The biggest problem with La Verdad, however, is not the inattentive staff, but the food itself. Our meal started well with a beef quesadilla. The beef was tender, and the mushroom and corn filling was a nice surprise, especially when one considers that quesadillas exist on the menu of every bar/pub/family restaurant in the city. The guacamole that accompanied the dish was bland and too mushy for my taste, however. For entrees, my companion ordered the enchiladas, my favorite Mexican dish, but there was very little to get excited about. They were under sauced, dry and lacked seasoning. Mexican food requires bold, fresh flavors, and this dish did not have any. I ordered the chile verde, which exposed even more problems. Again, the dish was under seasoned, and they only way I knew I was eating a Mexican dish was because of the unmistakable sweetness of tomatillos. There was nothing in the dish to cut this sweetness: no salt, no spice, nothing savory. The menu claimed it came with braised pork, but there were only 3 pieces of pork which were dry and tough for a braised meat. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but La Verdad was 0 for 2 on the entrees, and for a menu that offers few dishes to begin with, this is not a good sign. Overall, it was not worth the trip or the money for bland food and poor service. Pros: Location is good for ball games, good quesadillas Cons: Service, flavor, value

Went to Laverdad Last night and the food was great. I got the mixed gril plate which was steak pork and two house made sausages and my wife got the fish tacos. They were pretty busy and intil the game started after that the place cleared out. Our server was very nice and took care of us even know she was very busy. The drinks were right on and the margeritas were amazing

Went over the weekend and ordered a regular FROZEN margarita and the waitress came back with a regular margarita, shaken. When I told her that's not what I ordered she just matter of factly told us they don't serve regular margaritas frozen (you think she would've said that when we ordered it!) We then ordered the mixed grill plate (skirt steak, carnitas, chorizo and habanero sausage) to share which said came with "seasoned mashed plantains" When the dish arrived, the white pile of mush with the meat was actually ICE COLD BOXED MASHED POTATOES!! NO JOKE!! I am Cuban and know a plantain from 100 miles away. When we told the waitress she insisted we were wrong but would bring us a different side dish, we asked for the plantain chips which were ok if those also weren't cold and soggy. The meat , I must say, was very good. The habanero sausage is NOT for the faint of heart, VERY HOT!! We ended the meal with the Dulce de Leche bread pudding and the Churros, both were excellent. The waitress did take the meat platter off the bill to make up for their goofs. Pros: location if looking for a good meal before/after the game, dessert Cons: description of menu items are false, unknowledgeable servers

I have been her a couple of times and it always ends in the bar tender saying something rude to a paying customer. DONT GO HERE! there are lots of better options within five feet!!!!

I'll give them a slight break as I was there before a ballgame. So, yes, the service was painfully slow--they desperately needed another bartender--but it was really crowded and would be clearing out soon. No break given for the bland food. This is supposed to be Mexican, after all. The carnitas was tender and tasty but with only the tiniest hint of a Mexican marinade and no hint of seasoning. The carne asada tasted simply like plain beef. Salsa was even more bland-tasted like it was made from watercress. The tiny portion of refried beans was decent enough. Very strong bean flavor but still with the mushy consistency the dish demands. The music was so loud our bartender, when we did get the opportunity to speak to her, couldn't understand our orders. We wound up leaning across the bar shouting into her ea. I've nothing against loud music and enjoy a good Latin beat but the sound system was such that the only thing discernible was an absolutely thundering bass line. But the biggest problem is the food. It is just incredibly bland for Mexican. Maybe they're cutting food costs by not using any spices. I mean, this stuff is more bland than a Mexican restaurant in a mall in Idaho. Boston is a Mexican food wsteland and even by Boston standards it was a waste of calories. On the plus side, the margaritas were pretty tasty. Not too tart or sweet with just an edge of the tequila cutting through. I've had better, but far more often, I've had worse. Pros: pretty good margaritas Cons: Bland, bland, bland
