I think this shop is overrated. I grew up in a very italian town and feel the cannolis don't compare.
Once you finish waiting in line, you cannot view the food you want because everyone is blocking...and you are rushed to make up your mind. No prices are shown, so you are left to worry if you've spent too much.
I'd recommend going 2 blocks down to another shop and avoid the crowds!
Pros: Many options
Cons: small and crowded

The fashion show of hat by Bruna costumes paraded in front of the bakery. The hat that were really made of cloth were made to resemble the petite fours from the court of Marie Antonette. They were delecately detailed with fring and pearls and beads that resemble the real thing
It was hard to image that woman really wore these beautiful hats and gowns good enough to eat.
Great Display for the pastry shop and Bruna Costumes of Prov R.I. for the demonstration.

This is a must if not just for the experience. It is a milestone in the North End. The line can be tough but its worth the wait. Once you breach the doorway you will find three lines: two on either side of the room and one in the middle. TAKE THE MIDDLE LINE, otherwise you won't get a full purview of the entire dessert case. So good we went twice in one day. Do not get the strawberry shortcake (it was nasty). ENJOY!

Once or twice a month, after I get out of work, I run to Mike's pastry to buy bunch of pasty for my family - mainly lobster tail, whipped cream puff, cannoli, ricotta cheese pie and some other ones that catch my eyes. I end up buying so much, worrying about the price, but the price is always much cheaper than I expect! You can buy loads loads of pastry that can feed 5 people or more with under $20. (Actually it depends on what kind you buy, some kinds are more expensive that others) The food is always fresh, especially when it is crowded because they bring new ones quickly.
My recommendation:
LOBSTER TAIL!! It's crunch outside, sweet & creamy inside. Everyone who tries it falls in love with it. It's kind of big for one person. if you buy just one, you can share with others and save $$.
I also love their cannolis - try all kinds they are all great.
And the giant Wipped cream puff!!
Several cons to note:
(1) very tiny space, not a good place to eat in because there are only few small tables and you have to be squeezed in the crowd while you are eating. It is better to take-out.
(2) the place is often very crowded, especially in the evening. Sometimes you cannot even see what's on the display because so many people are blocking your sight.
(3) you cannot see the price of each item because they do not have price tag on the display. They do not give you receipt either - the clerks just calculate price themselves out of nowhere. But still I perceive that they have reasonable price for their items since it's never been too expensive.
Overall, I really love this place (not much of the 'place' itself but their TREATS) and it's worth to take a trip there. Those heavenly treats make me keep going back to Mike's. And my family is always waiting for me to bring Mike's pastry box.

My first cannoli was at Mike's. They are amazing. I travel all over the country and have tried to find another cannoli that rivals Mike's and none have come close. I get the one with chocolate chips and add powdered sugar. There are always long lines in this place, but it is worth the wait. The cannoli's are good sized and are $2.50 each.
Pros: Best cannoli's around
Cons: Long lines

yes, they probably have the Best dessert in town/ Boston, but if you want to sacrifice service in exchange for staff rudeness- i suggest you visit this place last because it might ruin your vacation or trip to Boston. I prefer to have good food and friendly service when I am traveling. ( service doesn't have to be great just friendly )
Pros: good dessert
Cons: np parking, rude staff
