One of Boylston Street's most popular after-work destinations serves modern American cuisine in an excellent people-watching locale.
The Scene
With a contemporary, dimly lit interior and a social, sunny sidewalk patio, this Back Bay after-work hot spot offers a variety of atmospheres. Young professionals stop by at all hours and fill the popular ground floor's comfy banquettes to swill designer drinks (white crantini, red sangria martini, cranberry mojito). Calmer environs can be found upstairs, where welcoming sofas and a quiet dining room beckon. Service in all corners is provided by harried, good-natured waitresses.

The Food
The varied menu of contemporary favorites is ideal for an upscale lunch or a snack between drinks. Budget-minded diners skip entrees in favor of shareable appetizers (asparagus and goat cheese pizzette, grilled chorizo, baked brandade). Entrees include white pepper crusted skirt steak, served with portobello fries, and a whole roasted lemon-tarragon chicken. Desserts like homemade apple beignets and warm pineapple upside down cake provide a palate-pleasing finish.

I agree with the consensus in Boston as to the general feel and clientele of Vox. Patrons tend to be a mix of the aspiring YITs (short for Yuppies in Training) and the Not Quite Fashionistas who are... More >
