this is a beautiful museum with lots of great collections as well as great special exhibits. in addition, once a week (i think it;s wednesday nights) students and kids can go free and the environment is really nice and freindly and kids feel welcome. its awesome!

The MFA in Boston is a very nice establishment. As soon as patrons see the exterior of this lovely museum, they will know they are in for a high-class treat. The interior wings are lovely- with marble masonry work highlighting the exhibits. Large halls over power some of the paintings, but impress upon the viewer the signifcance of what they're seeing. The MFA has a large collection of Egyptian and Asian art which is great to inspire today's artists with themes from the past. Also housed here are severeral works by Monet and Gaugin- probably not the best collection but nice to see nonetheless. Limited engagement exhibits cost a bit extra to get into, but are always extensive and worth the few extra dollars to explore interesting subject matter more in depth.

local gem! This is a great museum for the Boston community. Although relatively small in size, the museum has some wonderful collections - particularly of musical instruments. Great place for families and college students can get in for free once each week. Their special exhibits are always worth the extra admission fee.

The MFA is one of the most prestigious art museums in the world. There are plenty of other art museums in Boston which are also good too, but I find the MFA Boston holds the best exhibits and masterpiece works. You can spend an entire day a the museum and possibly not see it all. It's great to see what's what and escape the mundane outside world. The Asian exhibits are top-notch, including a wonderful mock Japanese Buddhist shrine, designed to give a sense of how the Buddhist statues would look in the real world. When you consider that the $15 price of admission buys you two trips within 30 days, it's a steal.

Furthermore, be sure to go through the walkway that was designed by I.M. Pei, who designed the walkway of the louvre in France. Admissions is costly at $15 but students go in for free.

I absolutely love spending time at the MFA! I strongly recommend you check out the impressionist room, as it is wonderfully done. The Egyptian exhibit can be extensive, but if you are interested, it is a great thing to have at your finger tips. It is a very accessible museum. You can take the green or orange line to it, and they also have their own parking on site. The special exhibits are usually quite good and are available for a long period of time. They sell out quick on weekends though, so reserve your tickets early. If you are a student, check to see if you can get free admission. Most of the area colleges get in free with their IDs.
