You've got to be kidding me. I just took my three kids there (ages 6, 8, 9) and the first thing I did when I got home was to google what others are saying about it, out of curiosity. I was flabbergasted by all the positive reviews. I suspect these people have never stepped out of their homes before - ever! My kids were quite bored and disappointed. It appeared fun and interesting at first. But when you really got down to it, all the exhibits/stations were nothing great at all. They were quite trivial and many things were, frankly, stupid. It's amazing that with all the funding this musuem receives that they couldn't conceive of better, more interesting and exciting exhibits/activities. There is a very small "Children's museum" in Easton, MA that is privately run with no endowment money and it is far more fun than this place.

I brought my 2 year old to the Children's Museum in Boston and it was definitely a disappointment. The toddler play area was pretty boring for her, because she goes to daycare, and so many of the exhibits were broken or closed. She would have had more fun if she was a bit older. Please note that they seemed to be doing some construction so maybe we went at a bad time.

I love the Children's Museum and I'm a grown up! It's so much fun. I still remember how much fun it was to dress up and play in the playhouse, and that screen that shows your image as you walk by, and the big milk botle thing outside, and the boston tea party ship...yay! Great place to bring a kid.

A visit here is always interesting and I recommend coming here with the kids. The museum is easily accesible and makes for a great day of fun.

From the exhibits of favorite storybook heros, to more educational finds, the Children's Museum is definitely your best bet in Boston if you are stuck with the kids on a rainy day. From the giant Hood milk bottles that greet you at the entrance, to the hands on exhibits and fun things to do inside, this museum is full of whimsy that will entertain your young ones and adults alike. You don't have to worry as much about your kids disturbing the contents of this museum as most exhibits are encouraged to be hands on. This is convieniently located near the financial district just over the Fort Point Channel- an excellent place to get a good view of the city and entertain yourself for the day.

This is a great place for kids of any age. The stuff for toddlers all the way up. Very open spaces, hands on, colorful and inviting, the Children's Museum has a lot to offer. My kids especially like the bubble tank and the dress up areas but there is so much to do, I'm sure you will find something for everyone in your family. Not a cheap day but I suggest skipping the attached McDonald's and bringing a lunch. Lots a space outside to sit and picnic right by the river.

As a child, I attended daycare at the YMCA and we often took day trips to various places throughout Massachusetts. I always looked forward to the trips to the Children's Museum. It was always TONS of fun - there is an overwhelming selection of exhibits that are fully interactive so your kids can play and play and never realize that they are actually learning something! :) One exhibit that I remember in particular (and I hope is still there!) was a traditional Japanese house. Kids had to take off their shoes when entering and could "play house" but it was very different than an American house. The table was low to the ground and you would sit on the ground to eat. Lots of other cool things as well, like Japanese decor. There are lots of similarly wonderful exhibits. I hope to be able to bring my own future children there someday!

The Children's Museum of Boston has a special area designed just for very young children. It is gated off and even has a snack room, breast feeding room and family bathroom. The infant area is separate (so the toddlers don't run them over) and has neat stuff just for them. While it isn't free, you can get free passes from the library and it is only $1 on Friday nights.
