I come here quite often for lunch on weekedays, and the long line (but fast moving!) out the door proves they know what they're doing. I'm not an expert on middle eastern food, but the ingredients are always fresh; hearty, chunky style seems very home-cooked. The grilled meats are the best - always juicy and smoky on outside. Unfortunately the falafel is on the dry side, so I never get that anymore.
Pros: Yummy, fresh ingredients
Cons: Crowded at weekday lunch

I just loved the Red Fez on Washington Street in the South End. For one, the atmosphere is great. Not so ultra hip that you feel out of place, but not shabby or dingy either. It's very nice inside, warm, mellow, dark...love the whole vibe they have going on with the chill out house music they play at night in the bar. They also have free valet parking and a great patio in the warmer months. I was impressed by their food, I ordered the Seared Scallops Basil and Red Bell Pepper Concassé for $10 with a $2 side of rice pilaf and made a dinner from it. My husband ordered the Grilled Kefta Ground Lamb and Beef, Cumin Yogurt Sauce and Rice for $16. We loved both meals - excellent. For drinks, I had a few of their delicious (and potent!) raspberry margarita's, and my husband had a few martinis that he also enjoyed. We returned a second time with friends for drinks and dessert in the bar, which was also a great evening. We split the Red Fez Cookie tray with Ma’Mul, Burma, Date and Fig Ma’mul, a slice of fruity cheesecake, and the Espresso Rum Cake. I was surprised that cookies and cake could taste so good. It was nice to have something different to, you can't find Ma’Mul, Burma, Date and Fig Ma’mul just anywhere! Their port selection is great, we had a Offley Tawny Colheita Vintage 1985 and a Ramos Pinto 20 yr Tawny, both were a yummy and made for a very happy ending. Excellent Middle Eastern Restaurant
I grew up eating Lebanese foods, homemade and this has been the only place that makes me feel like I am home again. It is Mom's quality food. This is genuine Middle Eastern food with no question. The dining area is conveniently located near the MGH T stop and close to Government Center. The waitstaff are attentive, professional and helpful with suggestions. The menu is quite extensive and is written in English. The waitstaff speak good English as well as Arabic. The dining area is clean and casual. You can come dressed up or in your casual atire. The wine menu is somewhat limited but they do have decent, inexpensive choices. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

My experience at Lala Rokh was exceptional. I went with my husband to celebrate our first anniversary. We were going for the weekend to Boston and it was hard to decide were to go for a special dinner. The idea of Persian food on Beacon Hill sounded very good to me and it was really more that we both expected. To start the atmosphere was very "tranquil" and sober, and at the same time romantic and relaxed. Service was excellent too. They were very efficient, gave us good descriptions about the food and advice in what to order. The food was very different, tasty and aromatic, a whole new experience for the palate. I recommend it a 100% and will be taking friends and going back because I defintely want to try their whole menu. Can't go without trying the "Fezenjen".
Pros: Good location, nice athmosfere, great service, delicious food
Cons: Being a small place I think is best to make reservations to avoid waiting

I work nearby, and this is the place I go to for lunch most often. I get takeout more often than I sit down. The shwarma salad is something I never get tired of. The food is always good, and the vibe is low key and pleasant. Nice people work there.
Pros: Good food, cheap. Pleasant atmosphere
Cons: none worth mentioning
