appetizers: coconut chicken soup is good too. satay... i personally like penang's better. the chicken here is not grilled enough (i.e. looks pale) and the peanut sauce is a bit on the watery side.
mains: pad thai and pad see you (broad rice noodle w/choice of meat) are on par. my friend had a pork tenderloin main course that has gone well beyond expectations on portion: 5 small slices of pork w/heaps of mushroom.
price is reasonable given that we ordered 3 mains, 1 appetizer, 1 soup, and opened a bottle of wine.
w/all thai & malaysian restaurants out there, i wouldn't go back specifically for the food, but i certainly wouldn't mind going again if i'm in the area.
parking on charles street always seems daunting to me. but that week night we went, around 7:30pm, there were plenty of spots at this end of the street.
:)
Pros: could get lucky in parking
Cons: overall experience doesn't stand out

In a city where ethnic restaurants are few and far between (especially Thai) this place is one of my favorite in the city. I?m originally from DC where Thai restaurants are as common as Starbucks and when I first moved here I unfortunately had to toil through the few Thai places that Boston has I found King and I. They have the best Pad Thai I?ve ever had and huge portions of everything unlike 99% of other Thai places Who cares if this places lacks decor, are you ordering wall paper as your meal?? Two thumbs up for King and I. If you go for lunch get there when they open the place fills up to full capacity very quickly.
Pros: Big Portions and Great Price
Cons: Service can be slow especially when its busy at lunch

This place caters too much to upper class America. So much so that it lacks authenticity. I can make better Thai dishes at home than this place could offer. It was cold, no Asian decor, just your average Martha Stewart floral paintings. I ordered Pineapple fried rice(Brown Sugar in Brighton has the best!), which comes with Shrimp and Chicken. I requested not to have chicken and instead substitute more shrimp. Waiter agreed and returned with pinepples, few vegetable and a plate of rice. A woman nearby was beckoned and I tried to explain what was missing. She called my dish 'Fried Rice w/Pinepple', I tried to correct her numerous times until I figured to call it a loss and just tell her I wanted shrimp. My original waiter came over and he apologized and returned with 4-5 pieces of boiled shrimp layed across the rice. Voila! that was my meal. No taste, no salt, not Thai!
To make matters worse I had cramping and 'sickness' for the next 2 days. Never Again...
Pros: Seated promptly, clean bathroom
Cons: Aweful food and terrible service

Hey if you think that their pad thai is good- you gotta try their pad see you- it's honestly the best in the world. When I visit the King and I, I always have a hard time choosing between all the noodle dishes. Service is prompt and the atmoshphere is nice. 7 or 8 years back there used to be 4 or 5 thai restaurants in the area- I'm glad this place is still here after all these years.

Since I could have remembered, I always been there since I was a little boy with my parent and my younger brother (I don't know
for how long they've been there?). This is the favorite place for our family and myself. We always been there at least once a week
or on the special occasions such as mother's and father's day, my mom's birthday. What I've been so happy with is the service
and the taste of the food. The staffs over there is very very friendly and very kind to do whatever you ask them to do about the
food. Talk about the taste, this restaurant is one of the best(in my opinion) I ever tried for Thai restaurant. I've never had
any problems with the food there at all, even it's not on the menu, just ask them they are very happy to do their best for you.
My favorite appetizer are paradise beef, chicken satay, crunchy salad. My favorite main courses are medley of the sea,pat thai,
chicken cashew nut. Actually I have more but those are what we always ask for whenever I've been there.
Until now I've got 2 kids, we're still going there as usual and the funny thing is my 2 little kids like exactly the same I recommend above... In my opinion, this is one of the best places for me when I
think about thai restaurant. Very recommended.
Pros: Good service,Best price and best Thai food.
Cons: Hard to find the parking space.

I disagree with Kristin's review. I eat there regularly twice a week as well as thousands of my co-workers at MGH. The food and service at King and I is always great. This person claims that she was sick after eating but the King and I is a clean place and has delicious and affordable food.
Pros: Affordable prices, consistent and reliable service, fast seating, generous portions.
Cons: sometimes it gets so busy you have to wait in a line...

My fiance and I ate there twice. the food is not the greatest thai food in boston but we go there because we live just 2 blocks away.
The service is not at all good, for instance we ask for steamed they give us fried food.
The wait staff laugh about the customers behind the register or when they leave. They also lack knowledge of the english language which often makes it difficult when ordering.
The last time we ate there we left the same time the waitress was going off duty and she slammed the door in our faces!
Just like many other reviewers on here we usually go because of location however after the door incident I am not sure if I would ever be eating here again.
Pros: location
Cons: bad service, rude waitresses

I love thai food. I've eaten thai food all over the world. I've visited thailand many times and one of the many reasons I love that country is that I love their food! But what you eat at this restaurant is NOT thai food. Everything is diluted. The food is extremely bland. I repeatedly have to ask them for more cilantro for my Tom Yum Goong. Why do I keep eating there? Coz I live in Beacon Hill and it's the only Thai restaurant around and when my girlfriend and I don't feel like cooking and want thai food, it's the only option! The reason it's still in business is because of its location. We usually walk out of the place unsure if the food was boring or if it sucked, forget about it, and then 2 weeks later go back. If any one opens a half way decent thai restaurant around beacon hill (business opportunity everyone!) this place would not last more than a day. In response to the previous review, neither I nor my gf have ever got sick from their food and we've eaten there many times. So there you have it - it's not real thai food, the food is bland, the service is good, and the food will not make you sick. What we've been doing lately is getting thai food delivered from "King of Siam" and eating at home when we want some decent thai food but don't want to schlep across the city.
Pros: Never gotten sick eating there. Close to our apt.
Cons: Not real thai food. Bland. Boring.
