Great location
We stayed here as a mini-treat to escape the daily stress. The hotel is very pretty and the rooms were comfortable. The best part of it for us was that the hotel is located right in the heart of Copley Plaza and most especially it is attached, or better yet part of, the Prudential Center Mall. We loved walking out to the many indoors corridors to shop at each of the little shops. The Sheraton staff was very helpful with telling us about Boston activities that were going on which we weren't aware of even as Boston residents. Great location.

This luxurious hotel really prides itself on the quality of service they provide to their guest. And rightfully so, as they will try to make sure that your stay is comfortable even if they have to go the extra mile. The staff is ultra-pleasant and the concierge service simply fantastic. While most of the restaurant recommendations include restaurants from the nearby Copley Square area, this has the oft-forgotten benefit that one can actually walk to the chosen place for eating. This, with Boston's infamous traffic and parking reputation, is an invaluable plus. Another benefit is that the T stop is right in the hotel itself.
Just as with other hotels with great location in downtown Boston, the parking is what it is here.

We love to dine in Boston, especially at Jewel of Newbury on Newbury Street. Enjoy a glass of California 2002 cabernet sauvignon and fine north african cuisine, the food is delicious. Mouldi, the owner, treated us to a special private tour of his 5 star boutique hotel with 18th and 19th century antiques, just upstairs from the restaurant. You can tour it online here. http://www.jewelboston.com/gallery.html
However, the experience simply isn't the same as in person, it put me in awe. If you're ever in Boston, you should consider either dining or resting your head at this very fine establishment. The food, the wine, the ambiance - tres chic!
EXQUISITE!

We have had several friends put up at the Onyx Hotel for convienience, but all have agreed that these accomodations are very good. Located in the heart of Boston's downtown within walking distance to the Fleet Center (where the Celtics and Bruins play) and Faneuil Hall (with shops and restaurants). This hotel often runs specials through internet bookings, making it very affordable if you care to wait to the last minute to do your booking. Otherwise, these accomodations can be over-priced. They used to have a Britney Spears suite complete with pink curtains and cheetos (to commemorate her song the "onyx hotel"). This room was definitely overpriced at $400 a night, but it's touches like this that make this hotel so interesting. They also have a very nice lounge restaurant on the first floor called the Ruby Room. An additional bonus is the driver that brings patrons to destinations within the area every morning. Great service!

From the outside, this charming hotel on Newbury Street looks like it belongs in a different era. Quant and old-fashioned, it offers rates competitive with the sleek downtown hotels and a complementary breakfast every morning. Located in the heart of the Back Bay area, what more could a guest ask for?

"We were greeted by Mrs. Butterworth. We were given keys & very strict instructions on how to lock the front door. The home was hot, dark & had an old, musty smell to it. There were 2 pleasant dogs, which unfortunately just added to the aroma of the home. As we climbed the staircase, we were advised to shut the lights off, whenever possible. We were asked to always leave the building dark. The home was neither fresh or inviting. We found used soap and shampoos in the bathrooms, used clothing hanging in the bedroom closets. We were left with the opinion that this establishment could be experiencing financial difficulty. As seen on several websites, the location is supposed to have air conditioning, however we only found open windows and (1) one table top fan per bedroom. The linens were musty, the couch had a dirty smell to it and there was enough dust on the upper hall table, that we literally "signed in" on that dusty surface. The upper hall smoke alarm was sitting on the upper hall table? The other couple in our party lost electricity in their bathroom within the first hour. The owner blamed current construction on the 3rd floor. We left for dinner and found another hotel to stay at. We returned to the inn, later that evening and found the house to be completely dark. The upper bedrooms were extremely hot and humid. We packed our bags woke the owner up and advised we were leaving. To our surprise, the owner said "nothing", literally "nothing", as she closed and locked the door behind us. This could explain why the owner insisted on getting the one night room deposit, via personal check only. We left with the impression that the owner has experienced all of this before. By definition, this is not a bed and breakfast. We should have been warned about any construction at the site as well as there being "no" Air Conditioning. We felt very deceived. We lost our two room - one night deposit <$500.00> , but we were able to salvage our vacation by choosing to leave.
Pros: Choosing to leave
Cons: No air conditioning, used toiletries, dusty surfaces, used clothing in the guest closets.

The Buckminster has somewhat of a reputation, and mostly, it lives up to it. My wife and I checked in late at night, and were given a room overlooking the Mass Pike. Needless to say, sleep was not an option with this arrangement, so we asked for a room change. The staff, while very friendly, scrambled to find another room for us, but eventually, they did. The hotel seems to live in a perpetual state of dust, a condition exacerbated during our stay by the ongoing construction. The air conditioning, however, worked flawlessly.
"Breakfast" can be eaten at the mini restaurant that is on the premises, but I'd suggest a trip to the bagel shop instead.
On the other hand, this hotel is certainly more affordable than other nearby options and is a one-minute walk away from Fenway Park, as well as very close to the Boston University campus. I guess if you don't mind the dust and the shady security, it is a good hotel for the price...
