Greeted by a waterfall’s murmur, fragrant herb tea and a soothing hot towel, you’re immediately transported from the humdrum at the Mandarin Oriental Boston’s therapeutic refuge. Shoes are swapped for spa sandals, brought ceremoniously on a tray. Then it’s on to the thermal and wet room, which includes a pond-size jacuzzi, steam room with changing colored lights and an “experience shower” with computerized settings, ranging from refreshing arctic mist to tropical storm (complete with lightning!). The treatments--from a luxurious, lingering pedicure to the two-hour signature Time Ritual massage--are based on healing, therapeutic principles, incorporating traditional Chinese medicine principles and aromatherapy for an individually tailored, restorative benefit that’s beyond skin deep.
