More
Harvard Book store is not affiliated with Harvard University so you won't see any textbooks here but the selection for every other genre of literature is superb. It is not about quantity at this bookstore but quality books at a sometimes below market price. The basement houses one of the best used book sections in the area while the upstairs has a section for most genres though it leans towards the social sciences and humanities. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and well read. This means that the selection at the front of the store is almost always full of interesting books not likely to grace the bookshelves of Barnes and Noble.

This place is (or was) my favorite bookstore in Boston. They were located in a quaint little area on Newbury Street, but the rent sky rocketed and they could no longer afford to stay in the building. They have, however, decided to move locations and open up very soon. While us book lovers wait in anticipation they do provide updates of their status on the website, which I highly recommend everyone checks out. I usually go on and harass them about opening shop sooner, is suggest everyone does the same.

My best friend's father is a used book dealer and we grew up going to the Brattle Book store with him. At a younger age, I didn't fully appreciate how wonderful the selection was, but I am now constantly amazed at the treasures held within the store. A definite must for anyone who appreciates rare books.

The Brattle Book shop in downtown Boston has a plethora of antique and out-of-print books for collectors and treasure-hunters alike. They have so many first edition books- which make excellent hard-to-find gifts for book lovers.
The staff here is very knowledgable and is excellent at making recommendations or helping patrons navigate the vast selection. It's easy to see why this has been an institution in Boston since 1825.

For many years this has been one of my favorite places in Boston. What's not to love about a place that combines two of my favorite things in the world -- food and books! They have delicious breakfast things, smoothies, sandwiches, and my favorite -- the cashew chili. They have desserts and teas and all sorts of things, but it's not just a snack cafe but rather a place to get a meal. The book store itself is small compared to today's mega shops, but they have good buyers and a good and thought-provoking selection. They also have a huge and quirky magazine selection. Hours of fun can be had here. Very quick walk from Hynes T stop. Very fair prices, too.

Despite the name, you'll find much more than comics here. In fact, if anything, the focus of the store is really music or, more generally, pop culture. Their music selection is great, and they've added a nice DVD collection as well. Additionally, you can find a large number of cool chachkas. It's a great place to browse if you're idly wandering around on Newbury Street, and it's hard to resist buying something neat on the way out.

Barbara's Bestsellers is located in the center of South Station. It appears to be a small kiosk, but I have consistently been surprised that they have had every book I've looked for, every time I've stopped by. I love browsing the books while waiting for commuter trains... it is much better than buying a magazine or something from the newsstand. Everyone that works there is so nice. I used to work next door and would stop by frequently on my lunch breaks. Although I didn't speak to the staff too often, they began to recognize me after a while and whenever I'd buy a book, they'd give me the good friends discount. I always appreciated the gesture very much! They have staff recommendations on the inside corners of the store, which are always fun to read.

I recently moved to the neighborhood and discovered Trident Cafe almost by accident one day. The staff made me feel so welcome, the service was fantastic, the food was really good and reasonably priced. Great place to go alone, with your honey, with your pals or with your kids!
Pros: Relaxing, friendly, good food
