I personally enjoy bookstores that have not made it to the corporate level yet; therefore, any bookstore that qualifies is definetly high above Barnes and Noble or Borders. I like this place, not as much as the Brattle or the Booksmith, but it has its own charm. Definitely recommened it if you are of the same opinion as myself.

This is a high-end used bookstore near the Public Garden/Common. There is a very nice, elegant feel to it. The prices are high, but so is the quality of the books. No crinkly paperbacks here. Great selection of history books. Hard to think of better ways to spend an afternoon. Display window with interesting books. Assortment of rare books. Fiction, drama section fine, but not amazing. Seems to specialize more in history and other nonfiction used books, again, of the expensive and hardcover variety.

This store offers a good selection of used books, and later business hours than most other stores. Searching through used books can be quite an adventure, as you never know what you will find. One day I left with the very first edition of 1984, which was published in 1949, and another day I left completely empty handed. If you have the time, see what you can find.
