The Brattle Book shop in downtown Boston has a plethora of antique and out-of-print books for collectors and treasure-hunters alike. They have so many first edition books- which make excellent hard-to-find gifts for book lovers.
The staff here is very knowledgable and is excellent at making recommendations or helping patrons navigate the vast selection. It's easy to see why this has been an institution in Boston since 1825.

I really like this bookstore, definitely on pare with Avenue de Victor Hugo. I particularly like it because they buy used books and generally pay more than any other place, really convenient for all those books I used for one class and never want to read again. They are pretty leiniant with moderately damaged books, I mean they do not have to be in mint condition or anything. They have a lot of stuff and is a pretty fun place to go read, they aren't open on Sunday, but they are every other day of the week.

A great independent store, this store is a treasure hunt for old, used, or out of print books. The outdoor used book section is fun to rummage through, but make sure you have plenty of time to search through them, because they are organized according to subject, not author or title.
