I joined this gym since it offered TONS of group exercise classes to choose from and they were offered at all times of the day. As a student, this was very important to me because my schedule was always changing. Also, I was interested in a gym which offered yoga. I found yoga classes offered at individual studios to be more expensive than the cost of a monthly membership at Gold's. I hardly used the equipment, other than the elliptical, and just attended group exercise classes. The gym offers yoga and pilates classes, as well as a combo class of yoga, pilates and tai chi (bodyflow) for all levels of fitness and experience. After a few months of yoga and cardio, I tried the body pump class and I was addicted. All of the instructors were very motivational and made the classes very fun. That class got me into shape quickly and I saw major changes in my body. My two year contract is about to end and I would absolutely sign another contract with Gold's, but sadly for me I just relocated to a city in TX which has few Gold's (and the few they do have don't offer many classes).

I love this gym!! The amenities, equipment, to the child care are first class. The staff is friendly, and extremely helpful. The environment is not intimidating, and they even have a concierge desk in the middle of the club that is there to answer any questions I have. The aerobics classes I have are wonderful and I tried their Pilates class for the first time last week. They have a full service tanning salon which makes it very convenient. I shopped all the gyms in town and nothing comes close to Golds Gym. They are building a new 65,000 square foot facility in Vestavia which is supposed to be unbelievable. I am looking forward to this because it is going to have a lap pool.
Pros: amenities, equipment, friendly

I recently switched to Gold’s Gym on 280 because of a job change and I have mixed feelings about it. This is my thoughts after about four months with the gym:
The Good: The people are very nice. You always see a smile coming in and going out. The weight equipment is superb, anything you could possible want. The cardio equipment is excellent as well, there is always something open for use. Plus, they have a movie cardio room where you can what a movie in a theater while running, cycling, etc. Also, all the classes are included with your membership and require no sign up, just show up.
The Bad: Contracts. They want you to sign a long contract, something in the neighborhood for two years. As a contractor that switches jobs often, that’s just not an option for me. So instead I opted for a month to month obligation that really cost me. Which brings me to my next bad point, Cost. I am paying $75 a month, which is a “VIP” membership, although I don’t know what that means really. But even the rates with a long contract were over $50 a month. Another downside was no pool, you would think for those high rates you would have a pool, but you would be wrong.
Overall, a nice facility, but they sure are overly proud of it. I’ll likely be looking elsewhere soon.
