Ten Thousand villages, located on Elm street in Bethesda, MD is a collection of fairly traded items from across the globe. The prices are fantastic and the service is wonderful. The items in this store are all handcrafted and very affordable. This is a great store to try for something different for that person who has everything. Each item has a story behind it and will definately be a hit with whomever you give it to.
PROS: Quality items, great service, great prices
CONS: Small store, not a huge selection store to store

The Waygoose is a sophisticated boutique that specializes in fine american arts and crafts. The artists represented are both local and national. The Pottery/Ceramic is unique, the wood pieces are exceptional as are the Joseph Craig English prints. If you are looking for a for that special something, this is the place to visit.

Great Store with many wonderfully hand crafted goods. These goods were made in third world countries, so by making a purchase you are helping them earn a living. Many of these crafts, you can't find in any other store. Each item is very unique and beautiful. The help there was wonderful. The Manager Hai, is a very friendly and knowledgeable person. I've made many trips in there just to browse and see the new shipments that they receive.

The Papery is part of the increasing yuppification of Bethesda, if it
can be even more yuppified. It sells very expensive paper products
like cards and ink and paper, of course. The stuff is rather
pointless, and as I said, very expensive. People do pay these prices,
unfortunately, so the store stays in business. The space would better
be taken up with some better, cooler store.

I first went here to help my friend buy wedding invitations. They had everything we were looking for and were very generous with helping us find everything we needed to complete the invitations. Their stationary is the most beautiful I've ever seen. I will go back for ALL of my stationary needs.

irresistibles is a preppy store that carries clothing, bags, belts, wallets, and other accessories. its biggest asset is its jewelry. although it's non-returnable, the jewelry is unique and interesting. there are some exceptions to be found among the super-preppy clothing selection. (word of warning... it carries mostly sizes on the bigger side... it caters mostly to older women/moms)

I registered for my wedding at this store and the staff was amazing, the crafts and gifts were beautiful. They have a great collection of affordable and extravagant gifts, collectibles and pottery. I own many pieces from the Waygoose, and have shopped there for original wedding gifts. Highly recommended.
