Shrimati's has the the world's largest collection
of Asian Indian Music under one roof.
I have never seen such a collection even in India.
Their website is
http://www.shrimatis.com/
They are located near the university of Berkeley on the University Avenue. Infact, University Avenue has a lot of indian shops where you can shop for sarees, lehangas, as well as many restaurnats where you can have great indian food.
This shop is highly recommended for a music lover. If you are looking for old Indian classics, this is the place to visit.

Noah's is what bagels are meant to be like--not these hard, chewy doughnuts you find in the supermarkets. They're opened as early as 6:00AM for working people and they have about 20 different varieties...including some that are seasonal (like pumpkin for october and cranberry for december). They also have about a dozen varieties of shmears (flavored whipped cream cheeses). My favorite combination is Sun Dried Tomato bagel with Salmon Shmear. YUM!

This place is really fabulous! I've gone in a few times and the music is really great. I love the way that it is decorated with the big palm trees and it reminds me of being in the Islands and also very classy! Comfortable and classy too. We heard Pete Escovedo and it was great. So fun! Other times I've heard Susan Muscarella from the Jazzschool and she was great too. And Zoe and Dave Ellis. Wonderful Bose sound system. They showcase the local musicians. You can hear every note! This a super place for a date or a birthday party. Or even your parents. They don't want any loud talking while the musicians are playing. Like a Berkeley Yoshi's, about the music, so I love that. Seats about 100 so you can really see and hear the music. Reasonable prices too and good drinks. I am glad it's all ages and still it's not rowdy. A classy fun place!

I checked out this place with about 6 friends, and we had a great time. The drinks were unique and the food was really good. (My friends couldn't stop ordering the Cherry Bombs!) We ate, drank, and chilled out to the DJ spinning ambient/house that got better as the night got later. My friends and I will definitely be coming back.

If you want cheap, but AWESOME Greek food, this is the place to go. Eat a Pita is one of the best places in Berkeley to eat. I always get he combo plate because it lets you taste all the dishes, you get chicken kabob, a beef kabob, lamb shwarma rice and a mini-salad, oh and hummus for like $7!!! And it is really good, especially if yo u are hungry. The only thing is it takes about 15-20 minutes to get your order, so don't go if you are in a rush.

All the teachers are Deaf, with the possible exception of one who was raised in a Deaf family. They don't just teach the language, they teach about the culture, history, and politics as well. Of course, the program includes two semesters of Deaf Culture and History in the United States, and work in the community, but it's true even in a fingerspelling class. The program developed and used at Vista is used in ASL programs across the country, books and DVDs and all. It's fun to learn from the DVDs and then find those movie stars teaching your class the next semester!

More
everyone knows berkeley as the top public university in the country. it's true. it is. what more do i need to say? i'm not sure, but i'd like to contribute _something_ helpful.
well, people sometimes have said that the classes are crowded at berkeley; and as a lower division student; yes, you may encounter some basic education classes that are rather packed. (to fix that, we'll need better politicians throughout the state, not just in the bay area.) however, by the time you graduate, you'll have gotten a top quality education and experienced so much by immersing yourself in an environment that knows the wide diversity of culture on this big planet.
when you come here, you learn about different cultures, yes; and no matter what your major is (mine was mechanical engineering), that will help you in life. one slogan a particular dormitory had back in my days was "we get mean in the ghettos." i didn't live in that dorm, but i liked their slogan because it describes berkeley well. well, first off, yes, in _some_ departments and majors such as ones with many "pre-med" students, you'll find cut throat competition, but that's not the point. the point is that you'll get a less in reality, in what somewhat urban life is like, what the lives of so many different people are like... how does that make you "mean"? well, it makes you a "lean, mean machine" to take on the challenges of life in general. that's all.
all i can say is, kids, don't aim to go to stanfurd. aim to go to berkeley!

The building was designed by architect Julia Morgan, who also designed Hearst Castle as well as many of the historical buildings in Berkeley. It's all redwood and used to be the St. John's Presbyterian Church, which is now located across the street.
