My wife and I enjoy dining out - who doesn't? A neighbor recommended Cha Am and we've been there about 6 times in so many months. We both especially like the wood-finished add-on area in the front. The waitresses are nice, not overly fussy and might not suit corporate-minded clients who might demand 5-star service. The food is quite mouthwatering. I find it has the best presentation of duck, not those small-chopped pieces. The mint ice cream is to join a gym for. They have working hours so call before you leave the house, except you plan to make do with Andronico's across the road!
Pros: Service, food, dessert
Cons: Parking, steep stairway out front

Cha Am is good. It's just that there are now about 30 Thai restaurants in Berkeley so it makes the standard go up. When I was in college it was the Thai restaurant to go to. Now, unless your from Modesto, you'll be equally happy going to a number of other restaurants in Berkeley. It used to be considered (back in the 80's) one of the best Thai restaurants in the country, but now it's probably struggling to be one of the best Thai restaurants on the block!

Cha Am is located in the gourmet ghetto area of berkeley and is a decent place to go to dinner in berkeley. I've had their food about 3 times, good food, but it was pretty dry chicken in the curry the first time, but the 2nd time when I ate there is better. Service is satisfactory, location is great. Overall its a good place to go to if youre in the area, but not somewhere to go if youre coming out of your way.

Cha Am has never failed to satisfy my tastebuds! Their pad thai and pad see ew dishes are sensational. It's a must-eat if you're in Berkeley! During a less busier time, the service deserves an A+, but when you're there during a busier hour, you may need to wait a bit. The portions are larger than most Thai places I've been to, so you get more for your buck. Ohh.. and the brown rice is to die for. I don't know how they make it so aromatic and tasty - it's perfect!
The ambiance creates a homey and comfortable feeling. It's bright array of colors and decor creates a business in the atmosphere, but somehow it manages to not be too cluttery (though it does border on it). It can be romantic for date nights, but it's also a great spot for groups and an intimate crew of friends.
Pros: Amazing food!
Cons: Can be a little sweet

Cha Am was my first experience eating great Thai food. You just don't have places like this on the East Coast. The Asian food (at least 5 years ago) just wasn't this good. Well, to be honest, most of it isn't this good on the West Coast either. When I came out here, my buddy said YOU HAVE TO GO TO THIS PLACE IT'LL BLOW YOU'RE MIND… and so, we did make the trek and he was right. The curries here are ridiculously fresh and any of the specials (which, unlike most places actually sound special everytime I've been there) are always a good way to go. I've had other great Thai food since then, but still, thank you Cha Am for changing my life..

We eat at Cha Am pretty regularly, even though there are other Thai restaurants closer to us. Their Tom Kha Gai is excellent, and I haven't found better yet. They also offer very good brown rice in addition to regular white rice, which is a big plus in my book. Their Pad Thai is not my favorite. I find it a little bland, and it has a disturbing "nuclear orange" color to it.

I used to find Thai food too sweet for my taste buds but after my first experience of Cha-Am I found my self craving for their Pad Thai. The quality of their food is very nice, I recommend you to try specials of the day. They usually use seasonal ingredients to create these master pieces. Service can be slow , especially during dinner hours because of the high demand and servers might not be the nicest but its worth it.

Cha-Am is considered by many to offer the best Thai food in Berkeley. It is certainly yummy, with a large selection of vegetarian and meat based dishes. My first choice is Ruen Pair, but Cha-am is great because you can walk there from campus. Sitting by the window during sunset can be a blinding experience.

Parking is a bit of a problem unless you use the Andronico’s parking lot across the street, but this place is highly accessible by bus. If I recall correctly, you can take the 7, 9 or 43. The bus stop is right next to the restaurant.
