36 Year history, 300+ (combined) years of cycling knowledge, cooperatively owned, free classes, free loaner tools, VERY competitive prices (do some research), supporter of many cycling clubs & teams. Yes it can be a little crazy at times (weekends), but don't let that keep you away from the coolest little bike shop in town!

The shop isn't cheap. It is technically a coop but doesn't have the perks that many better bike coop have such as trades for cheaper parts. They are snobbish and stand offish. Basically a bunch of pathetic old yuppie has bens that are ripping off Berkeley students. Anything they sell you can get cheaper online.
PROS: Tool shop, but don't ask for help you will get yelled at.
CONS: Mean. Pricey. Holier than though

This team is definitely out to serve the biking community. I went here several times for advice and assistance. When I brought back an old bike light for them to look at and repair (without a receipt), they gladly exchanged it completely for me. When I brought my bike in for a repair, they fixed it quickly and waited for my return. Though I never did get fitted for my bike, this place does offer this service. It is not very expensive and they do not try to sell you rubbish in the process. Well, maybe they do, but how would I know. Check out their website as they offer a wealth of information there, more than I can tell.

The Missing Link really makes you feel like you are part of the community when you walk in the door. They are always very friendly. If you need to fix your bike, you can either take it in and work on it yourself and you can have them work on it for you. Prices for repairs are very reasonable but their retail bikes are a bit expensive.

More expensive than the $125 Huffy at WalMart, you make up for it in the quality of the product and the service.
The folks at Missing Link are concerned with making you the most effective rider you can be. Not certain which bike is appropriate for you? The staff at Missing Link made several bike suggestions than let me take them out on ten-minute test drives around the neighborhood. After the sale, I got a year of free adjustments, for brakes, seat position, etc. to make sure that the bike was properly fitted to me and that I would be comfortable on the bike. Missing Link offers free classes on topics such as brake adjustment, bike selection and how to change a flat tire.
Ill buy my next bike at Missing Link, too.
PROS: great service, adjustments with purchase, classes

The Missing Link is like an institution in Berkeley. Its run as a cooperative, though you wouldn't know it just walking in the door. Not only do they offer low prices on bicycles and accessories, but they will help fit you to the bicycle. Their repair shop is across the street, and is one of the best in town. The only problem is its sometimes too popular. You need to schedule your maintenance visit a couple of weeks in advance. Finally, they are also great on education, offering hands on bicycle workshops on a regular basis.
PROS: Knowledgeable Staff, Reasonable Prices, Good Products
CONS: Sometimes the repair shop gets too busy
