The Colophon Cafe is next to a great bookstore in this classical area called Fairhaven. You have to experience the Colophon in the summertime, I'm not sure there is a better place anywhere. Sit out on the patio and watch the kids play in the park. They have great soup and sandwiches, and excellent pie for dessert.
The Colophon can be extremely busy in the summertime and Fairhaven as a whole is just hopping with people. You may have to wait a while for a table outside, but just look around in the bookstore until they have your table ready.
Parking is also difficult to find, be prepared to walk a block or two. Make sure you have a couple hours to spare in this part of town before going to the Colophon.

I have always enjoyed my meals at Hong Kong Garden Restaurant in Bellingham. I have been a customer for over 20 years, and I was shocked to read the other review on this site that described one of the restaurant employees as having "horrible hygiene." It quickly became apparent that this reviewer was speaking of the WRONG Hong Kong Garden. There happens to be a restaurant called "Hong Kong GardenS" in Anacortes, and I believe that is the one he meant to review. What tipped me off was that the reviewer mentioned a "lounge" area, and the Hong Kong Garden in Bellingham does not even serve alcohol, let alone have a lounge area. The locations, despite having similar names, are in no way connected to each other. I happen to know the owner of the Hong Kong Garden in Bellingham, and he and his family are absolutely delightful.
If you're looking for a yummy Chinese restaurant in Bellingham, look no further - Hong Kong Garden has delicious food, served in generous portions and at reasonable prices. There's a reason this establishment has been in business for nearly 30 years!
Pros: Delicious food, prompt and friendly service, ample parking

This is a great coffee shop in Bellingham- it's delightful! The room is cozy and quaint, just like your classic coffee shop should be. The baked goods are perfect, and their coffee is really good, too.

This is by far the best Thai food you can get in Bellingham (or possibly anywhere). The food is spicy and flavorful, and the portions are huge! For around 7.99, you get soup, salad (with a tasty peanut sauce vinagrette), rice, and a gigantic plate of whatever you order. You are sure to have left overs for at least 2 more meals! My favorites are their Pad Thai Tofu (try the tofu, it's crispy and fried) and the Swimming Ramma Chicken (sweet, spicy peanut sauce, chicken, and spinach). The service is really great here too. Don't forget to wash it all down with a Thai Iced Tea- it helps to cool the spice in your mouth! Seriously, this is by far one of my favorite restaurants to go to.

I first went to Sehome Cleaners to have a pair of pants hemmed, and they've since become my primary source for any work of this sort. The turnaround on getting something mended or altered isn't usually as fast as getting something cleaned, but I believe one woman does all that work, rather than the team who do all the dry cleaning. I think it's worth it- they've got a great location and she does really wonderful work. My silk sweater was snagged, and the repair is almost invisible.

This is the liveliest, yummiest spot for a weekend breakfast. The owner, Oliver is from Belgium and he creates the most magnificent pastries and tasty treats. He is a proponent of our local 'Buy Local' program and uses mostly organic foods for all his dishes. He creates incredible egg and waffle plates. And the coffee, mmmm....the best in town, especially the mochas, his chocolate, of course Belgium is amazing. Comfortable, eclectic atmosphere.

I went to school at Western in Bellingham and I was addicted to Taco Lobo! The food is fresh and they make the tortillas by hand. I will admit that sometimes I make the treck up there just to get a buritto. I love Mexican food, and although I have found some good Mexican food in the Bellevue/Seattle area, NOTHING beats Taco Lobo. If you are ever in Bellingham, this is a must try! Its cheap, quick and it will make your mouth water for days to come! If I could rate this over five stars I would!

There's no view, but that just means that if you want to focus on the food and your dining companions this is the place to go.
The steaks are incredible and the salad bar is the finest in town. Make room for the appetizers and desserts, too.
For dinner with my wife, or when entertaining a business associate who prizes a great meal more than a great view, this is the place.

The Colophon restaurant is probably my favorite place to go and eat on a rainy day! They have a great selection of healthy foods, and not so healthy desserts! They have so many choices, from sandwiches to soup, to quiche to homemade pot pies. I've never had anything that wasn't excellent. My personal favorite is the Mexican corn and bean soup. A little hint... they have a cookbook that they put out, and you can make their famous food at home for way less....though the prices aren't too bad at the restaurant.
