We have been dining at the Colophon for almost 20 years. It has become one of our favorite restaurants in town. The service has always been friendly. They offer a wide variety of soups, sandwiches, salads and more. I love the African Peanut Soup! They also make their own desserts, and have an ice cream counter upstairs. Be sure to try their huge Peanut Butter Pie. It is a great place for casual dining, and having a glass of wine on the back patio in the summer.

Touring Bellingham, Alex and I stopped at the Colophon Cafe for our lunch break. Located in an interesting little space that started at the side of the bookstore on the first floor, and continuing down into the lower level, we were pleasantly surprised with our choices. I heard the soups there are very good, but I had quiche, which was also fantastic. From the crust through the filling, every bite was a pleasure.
There is a huge ice cream counter on the 1st floor that gives you lots of options and choices. We didn't stop by, but business seemed to be busy.

The Colophon Cafe is located in the basement of Village Books in Fairhaven. It is not what I would call a "traditional" cafe. It does have sandwiches and soups, but to me it's weird food. Brussle sprouts on your sandwich and soy milk. It's a good place if you're a health-food nut, but I have never found the food all that satisfying. The atmosphere isn't bad, they once had a harpist playing while we ate, but I don't know that this place would be my first choice for lunch.
