This new restaurant has a really unique menu -- a mix of asian and western cuisines and a lot of unusual combinations that work really well. The atmosphere is nice but not over the top; it's a comfortable place.
The owner just opened up in Bellingham after spending 30 years living in Japan; he's enthusiastic about the restaurant and about you having a great experience.
The desserts are excellent; all the food is tasty. I've been there for lunch and dinner and enjoyed it every time.

This casual Japanese restaurant in Barkley Village has tasty sushi and quick service. Most sushi rolls start at $3.95 and there were appetizers from $1.95. On a recent weeknight the service was very quick and very friendly; it was a comfortable place to grab a quick dinner before heading to a movie.

More
Du Jour Bistro in downtown Bellingham is an excellent place to have lunch. They have an ecclectic, ever changing menu with reasonable prices. Their waitstaff is accomidating and remembers the names of regulars (a big plus in my opinion).
Plus, they serve a huge array of wine so if you want to make lunch a longer, more slow break, it's available.
One little quirk is that they don't have a menu so you have to remember to read the menu board on the way in or else you'll have to do the embarrassing "newbie" walk of shame back out to the street to read the menu choices.

World's Best Dentist

More
Whether you like going to the dentist, or you're more anxious about that dentist chair (like me), you'll *love* Dr. Ullsmith. I have had some difficult dental work done over the several years I've been a patient of hers, and I've always been comfortable and actually enjoy being there. The staff is so friendly and kind.
Of course, everyone likes the dentist when you just need a cleaning and everything is great. But when I was 7 months pregnant and got an infection under a tooth, I tested the limits. Because of the infection, no amount of novicane would numb the tooth and the extraction that followed was quite painful. Dr. Kelsey took her time and worked so gently - she truly cared about me and took extra precautions because of my pregnancy. She then gave me her home number to call if I had questions that night and called me personally in the morning to see if I was okay. This is one *amazing* dentist. Stop searching - you've found what your'e looking for.

The first thing you will notice about Mi Mexico is that the staff works very fast. They walk fast, they talk fast so you know you are going to get your food fast. They remember those who come often so you get the feel of being a regular when they remember you. The business has moved recently across the street from where they were before and the quality in the food has gone down since their move. It feels more like a chain restaurant than the local place it once was. it still remains quite popular and on Friday nights you may have to wait a short time for a seat, but it's still good Mexican food and you won't be disappointed.

I'll give you three reasons why Village Books is probably the best bookstore in Bellingham.
1. It is Located in the heart of history Fairhaven, the most picturesque, brick building dotted district of Bellingham.
2. The brand new facility has the most bizzare and intriguing sculpture you will ever see hanging in the corner window of a bookstore. Are they peppers or organs? And they are huge. And I hope it doesn't fall on you.
3. On your birthday you get to buy a book at a discount equivalent to the number of years you have been alive, up to %40 (but make sure you sign up ahead of time).
4. You will find many books at VB that you will not find at Mc B&N or Mc Family Christian Bookstore.
Oops. That was 4.

I've taken two cars to Bellingham Automotive for various repairs: a 1991 Honda Civic and a 1990 Geo Prizm. They did a great job every time and were very helpful. Not the cheapest place in town, I'll wager, but the service makes up for it.
Once I got in over my head changing a valve cover gasket. I was trying to do as much of the work myself as possible. The plastic spark plug "sleeves" were stuck in the valve cover and I lacked the right tools to remove them. There I was with the valve cover off and no way to proceed other than to have the car towed to a real mechanic. I took a chance and called Bellingham Automotive and told them I wanted to bring the car in for the remainder of the repairs...but it wouldn't run without a valve cover. They let my wife bring the part in (I was at work) and removed the spark plug sleeves and even cleaned up the cover for no charge. You can bet I took the car straight to them when I got the cover back on!

When you're buying a home, you want an inspector who is thorough to the point of obsessive. Leon did our home inspection when we moved to town and I was very impressed. He's the guy who trains the other building inspectors in the area and he's been in the business for many years.
Leon found a couple of problems that we had the seller repair...and discovered other minor things that were just plain good to know so we could keep an eye on them. He also encouraged us to call him any time in the future if we were doing maintenance or repairs and had questions. He remembers the houses he inspects and also keeps detailed notes on them.
Highly recommended.

More
I'm pretty easily satisfied with most dining experiences. Give me decent food at a reasonable price with intelligent service and I'm set. Unfortunately, the Marina Restaurant scored low in all these areas.
My wife and I visited the restaurant this past Friday, and thank goodness we were using a gift certificate! If we had paid full price, I think I would have croaked.
Let's start with the food. I ordered a New York Steak ($24). I was served a steak with no seasoning, some boiled russet potatoes with no seasoning, and some steamed broccoli with (you guessed it) no seasoning. Fortunately, there was butter and s&p on the table. My wife ordered the Alaskan salmon and it was similarly flavorless.
Service: Slow. We had an appetizer and main course and were there for almost exactly two hours. Our waitress was curteous and helpful, but apparently overworked (or maybe the kitchen was understaffed).
Ambience: Tired and somewhat dated. Nothing exciting except for the view. We were on a kind of mini-balcony with a table just below us and inches away. I could tell you all about the lives of the people who were at that table.
Price: Seriously overpriced for what you get. Our total tab was $62 for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 1 drink.
Conclusion: Avoid The Marina and go straight to Anthony's for similar prices and far superior food, atmosphere and service!
