More
I used Master Theater Builders to install a rear projection TV and a flat screen TV in my bedroom. They are the BEST. Don't bother going to Magnolia or Definitive for installation of your Home Theater products. These guys do everything, from drywall, to running wires, to repainting... everything is taken care of by their staff. The labor rates are reasonable (usually cheaper than the retail installers), plus they can purchase electronics at cost. I highly recommend using them if your installation includes running cables or punching into drywall. Their work is exceptional and affordable. Plus David really knows his stuff when it comes to the right products to buy. They are on the web at www.mastertheaterbuilders.com.

When we needed to hang a new light fixture in our entry with a vaulted ceiling and put an atenna on our roof, we decided that we needed help. A neighbor referred us to Vernon Walton and he took care of both jobs quickly and well. He is also an owner of rental properties so he has knowledge of the right and wrong way to do things to ensure that you won't regret a "fix" down the road.
Vernon is licensed, bonded, insured and very nice. He will be painting the interior of our home after the weather clears (and we can keep the windows open). Give him a call - he will definitely come to your rescue as he came to ours.

This is a fabric store, but they have THE best selection of GOOD apholstery fabrics. They also can either get you in one of their classes, or hook you up with a good apholsterer. This is a pricey job, regardless of who does it, fabric for good furniture can easily be $15/yard, so be prepared! The women who work there are very knowledgeable, and if you know what perioud your furniture is, they can steer you in the right direction for fabrics. Good luck--this is a really fun task, if you have some $$!

Ok, so now I remember why I shouldn't shop at Levitz. The whole experience was awful from beginning to end! Stay far, far away!
Went in looking for a family room couch set. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find one I liked, but amazingly, found a set here. To be fair, the prices are pretty good and you can negotiate. However, on the downside, it's just not worth it.
The salesgirl was kind of flip to us, but hey, even I can live with that...after all, it's a busy store, and it's not Nordstroms. But the real kicker, were the delivery guys! Setting aside the fact that 5 out of 5 pieces of furniture that I bought came damaged (yet another issue), when I pointed out the fact that the sofa (and yes it was the largest piece) had a major defect in it, the delivery guys started swearing at me and kicking packing material around, etc. It was obvious that they were unhappy about having to move the piece back into the truck.
Of course when I pointed out the other two pieces had flaws in them two, one of the guys decided that I wasn't even worth unpacking the other two pieces of furniture for me to even see it and said he was just going to take it back. (This is after about 10 minutes of swearing in front of me inside the house, and later complaining and griping about me while they were outside of the house, so I could hear.)
The guys tried to tell me that if they left it, the service guy would come and fix and if it wasn't to my satisfaction, they'd take it back. Of course, when I actually had customer service on the phone, they told me that it was my choice not to accept or have the service guy come, but if he came, he would make the determination if he was able to fix it sufficiently or not. In any case, not a direct translation.
Bottom line is that all the furniture came damaged and I felt physically threatened by the delivery people. STAY FAR AWAY!! Some things in life are just not worth it, and Levitz is one of 'em!

This store has a lot of really nice planters for good prices. You get half off of the price listed on the price tag on all of the pots. This begs the question of why they have that price listed in the first place, but what can you do? It's a good bargain anyway.

Half-Price Mattress outlet has a guy on the corner of 148th and 24th dancing around, proudly proclaiming the half-pricedness of the mattresses. While mattress shopping I figured I'd check them out.
Strange dancing men can't be wrong, right?
What the dancing man and his sign don't say is that the mattresses are used, refurbished, repaired, and then re-sold. Ick.
I don't want a used mattress, especially for "half off" retail which isn't that inexpensive.
Based off what some people do on beds... go somewhere else.

More 3 months ago
We used Go To Your Room twice, once for a nursery glider, and all went well. However, we also used them to purchase our crib bedding set, and ran into terrible problems. These problems all were caused by employee customer service issues, more specifically, the "right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing." We ordered linen, and then I came in a second time to confirm the order. Three weeks later, my wife got a phone call to reconfirm the same order! I don't know if I wasn't trusted, or they just plain forgot I came in, but it added three weeks of processing time to the work. Our linens came in nine weeks later, only to be done incorrectly. We asked for a throw pillow which was made incorrectly, and now has to be redone. The two customer service issues that bother me about Go To Your Room are first, we always had a feeling like our order was unimportant, even thought we spent over $1,000 at their store. Secondly, when there were problems, they were treated like we were no big deal. The response I got about the pillow was "I will have to reorder it I guess" and two employees didn't know whether or not it was actually done right or wrong. Finally, I ordered a pillow. To me, a "pillow" means a fabric cover with stuffing inside, otherwise it's called a "pillowcase" right? What we got was a pillowcase (cover) with no filling. This is on top of it being done incorrectly. I was never told this, and when I went in to pick it up I was told "Well yes, they are all like that." I have NEVER heard of a pillow just being a cover, and no one bothered to tell me while we ordered (and confirmed TWICE!). This is characteristic of the lack of customer service that we received at Go To Your Room. We will never go back and would not recommend the store to anyone.
