Udupi Palace
Udupi Palace serves the best south Indian food I have found in the Seattle area.
This small, humble restaurant is located near the cinema in the Crossroads Mall (not inside the mall, but alongside it).
They have opened a second location in Issaquah called Dosa Palace. I have never been there.

Udupi isn't exactly a Palace, but it is a great value for those who like what they do.
I admit that I prefer Northern Indian cuisine, which as a rule seems thicker, 'milkier' and with a different combination of spices; I recommend the coconut chutney. But I do like this as a counterpoint to my overindulgence of the aforementioned fare. Some people prefer to not have paneer and the other usuals in their buffet and there are rare occasions when this is true for me. I like their Dosas which slightly resemble crepes, because one can stuff just about anything on their buffet into one. By the way, don't make the mistake of loading lots of hot food onto one of their metal dishes and carrying it from the bottom...

Good Dosa
They mainly serve south indian food. But their Dosa's are exceptional. Good place for vegetarian people. They also serve lunch buffet. If you order dosa let them to give the stuffing separately in this way the dosa stays crispy for a long time. This is in the cross road mall so you also do some shopping in the same time.

like all the other reviews said..
This place does South Indian food. I didn't know what south indian food was, so it wasn't what I expected (no saag paneer etc.), but it was still very good. The lunch buffet was good and most of the people eating at the restaurant were Indian, which seems like a good sign to me. It's easy to get to and park at since it's at the Crossroads mall. It was $17 for two people for the lunch buffet, no extra drinks or anything.

South Indian Vegetarian in Crossroads Mall
Udupi stands out from the rest of the Indian restaurants in this area because they serve mainly South Indian style food. The big draw here are the dosas, an Indian crepe made from fermented rice batter, with a choice of fillings to choose from. They even have a six foot long dosa if you're starving or feeding a crowd! There is usually a buffet option offered Thali-style ( it's served in a metal tray). Pick up a round metal tray with small metal cups and you can fill up on what's offered on the buffet. I am not vegetarian, but this is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in the area. Too bad we always have to go to the Eastside to get good Indian.

Great South Indian Food
Udupi has very tasty south Indian food. I recommend it to anyone who's never tried south Indian food before, it's surprisingly different than the traditional curries of most Indian restaurants. We found the service and value to be excellent. The sambar and coconut chutney were both quite good (the staples of this type of food). While the restaurant itself is a bit blah, I would certainly go back. But watch out for the gulab jamum, they were rubbery!

Udupi Palace
Udupi Palace is my favorite Indian restaurant this side of New Delhi. The food comes served in Thali trays, (tin serving dishes) and is in the South Indian tradition, unlike most Indian restaurants in the Seattle area which serve in the North Indian tradition (buttery curries, Tandoori chicken and meats). The Dahl, (lentils) dhosas, and sambars (soups) are the closest things you'll find to real S Indian food in Seattle.

Delicious south Indian vegetarian food (dosas, etc.)
Udupi Palace is at the Crossroads shopping center in Bellevue. The menu is outstanding - there are so many options for vegetarians. Try a dosa (very thin pancake) stuffed with fresh chopped tomatoes, coriander, and onion with chutney etc. The portions are huge and the mains are very reasonable.
