We have been to this place a few times now. I have heard many horror stories about this place from multiple people, espcially about getting stale food. In my experiences (limited to lunch buffet) I have found the food to be okay but definitely not consistent.
However, what I have come to despise about this place is the owner. He is always at you, asking "how is the food", so much so that it becomes irritating. And if you ever tell him that something is not good, he would either outright deny it or pick up a fight with you. He tries to be friendly, but you can easily see that the whole thing is fake. I pity the cook. He seems to know a bit about his art. But he can't do much if the manager asks him to server stale Tandoori, Naan....

First off just let me say I love Indian food. This is one of my favorites for lunch buffet. Very good chicken tikki masala, saag paneer, and sometimes a nice okra dish, if you like okra. bhindi something or other. Above average salad selections. I go there almost once a week, and stuff myself silly, usually don't have room left for much dinner. I've never experienced bad service there, the owner is a likable character. I almost always get a warm greeting whenever I show up.
Pros: food, service

I went there many times because I liked the food on the lunch buffet, BUT I will never go again!
Every time they overcharge my credit card (1-2 dollars above the amount I signed). They stared to include 15% service change on top of the bill. Unpleasant and arrogant staff that makes you feel uncomfortable. All they care is to get your money.

They have overcharged my credit card 6 times over the last 3 months. The food is average and the service is pathetic. There is a mean-looking Indian lady that goes from table to table, brings the check and says "Pleeeeease". I will never go there again.

They started charging 15% service tax on the buffet. Food taste is below average. I won't go there as this place is expansive and not worth for money.

DO NOT GO to Taj Palace.
We've just come back from dinner at Taj and can't wait to write a review.
Objectively, the food was just okay. We've tried many other Indian restaurants and tasted better ones. We picked Taj Palace because it happened to be in the area and was supposed to be on the Passport list where we'd get a discount.
For the food quality and portion, the dishes are certainly overpriced.
It turned all ugly when the bill came - We presented the Passport ID for the buy-1-get-1-free discount and the waitress returned saying that the computer wouldn't accept it. We explained to her that the restaurant was on the Passport list online and that the information was absolutely current. Nonetheless she just ignored what we said and told us again that the computer wouldn't accept the discount, thus basically the end of the story. We were frustrated with her attitude and she then passed us on to the manager, who turned out to be the worst nightmare. He came to our table, all ready to argue, and before we could really say anything he annouced that they no longer accepted that particular Passport card and that we should just call Passport ourselves to make a complaint on the misrepresentation of information. He was clearly aware of the situation (not the first time that a customer came in with the same card) but apparently didn't care to fix the problem. We told him that even if that was truly the case he should have made decent effort to communicate the "error" to customers up front, like posting a notice at the door or something of similar intend. He responded by asking why he'd need to do that when it was none of his business and that we should be the one making the complaint to Passport. I explained to him that it'd be a very bad customer experience regardless and he literally said "I DON"T CARE"! What else could we say after that?!
Yes they're all smiles when you pay the full bill but when things don't go their way, you'll see the wicked faces.
Pros: Parking
Cons: Food, Service, Attitude
