I think she is the owner, but she is the most friendly, joyful person I've ever seen. She serves with delight and so happy. During the time I was there at the restaurant, I've heard nothing but praise from the other two patrons in the restaurant dining. One couple loved their freshness of the sushi. It was initially hard to find this location, it's tucked away behind the Chevron gas station. Never would've thought there was a restaurant that north up on Bellevue Way. But apparently it's one of the hidden gem. Check them out!

The wait staff was very friendly and courteous but the wait time for our food was so long!!
Tables seated after we were got their food before we did but I noticed that they ordered food from the kitchen, not from the sushi bar. All four in our party ordered sushi, and there was only one sushi chef. Sushi In Joy needs to get a second or third sushi chef, especially on a Friday night.
When we asked for extras such as sugar for ice tea, we had to ask twice because the server forgot.
Our dinner took a total of 2 hours when it should have been an hour at most.
Plan to spend at least two hours for dinner at Sushi In Joy.
Pros: parking, tasty food
Cons: service times

When you are looking through the ratings, you tend to look at bad ones first and take them a bit more seriously than the positive ones. That's what I did with Sushi In Joy. A bit skeptical at first since I have 2 kids who are quite young. So I stepped into the restaurant with mixed feelings.
Atmosphere: Very cozy and warm. Surprisingly bigger than it looks. Nicely decorated. Tatami room is a good addition. Clean.
Service: I was welcomed with a warm smile. It was a bit hectic because it was a dinner time on friday. Yet service was quick and without any mistakes. Menu was clear and with a description alone, I was able to tell what I wanted to eat. And green tea is free. Something you dont see alot in seattle. It's also not just green tea but genmaicha (Alot more expensive version of green tea).
Food: I'm a heavy sushi eater. I don't even associate with people who only order california and they tell me they love sushi. I order mainly nigiri (fancy word for fish and rice). All the fishes were fresh and plates were beautifully decorated by the chef. Some of the appetizers such as agedashi tofu, fresh oysters, squid butteryaki, and poki are great and get you started for your meal. Not only the sushi tasted great but the wok foods were great as well. My kids were very satisfied with the kid's menu. For almost $10 for kid's meal, it's healthier and very appetizing than other junks we feed our kids (Try the one with steak or sushi one).
Overall, i have to say I love this restaurant. I've been to many sushi restaurants in seattle and not that many places can top sushi in joy. Before you start whining about things that didnt make you happy, place yourself in a same situation on a different restarant. I bet you that result will be similar. And if you dont like what sushi chef has to say, dont sit at the bar. By sitting at the bar, you are commiting yourself to talk. Now just enjoy your sushi.
Pros: Great good, friendly service, cheap price, what more do you want?
Cons: wine selection can be better

I was in town for some training at a nearby computer facility. Since reviews of the place were pretty good, I decided to check it out. I arrived at lunch time, took a seat at the bar and proceeded to have some wonderful tea, great miso, and some remarkable sushi. The sushi chef was very polite and conversational; a trait I usually appreciate. Things got awfully weird the minute I finished off that last piece of unagi.
No one ever wants to hear the question "are you a church going man?" but thats what the sushi chef asked me. I told him no, thats a subject I don't care to discuss in mixed company. Apparently there was no stopping him. He went on to give me an earfull about my place in the universe, my soul's place in the universe, the undeniability of a christian god, the prideful nature of non-theistic spiritual movements, and a smattering of overly personal and inappropriate anecdotes regarding his path to his current faith.
All I wanted to do was enjoy the last of my tea and let my food digest a little before I went back to class. I certainly didn't want to get a presumptuous oration about the speed with which I'm headed toward the fictional place where the guy with the horns and pointy stick lives.
I worked in restaurants for almost 15 years. As a result I'm not very critical of service. You can spill a drink on me and I'll still tip you, my food can be late and I won't complain, burn it a couple of times and I'll wait for you to get it right, but yammering on about jesus is a pretty big no-no.
I'd like to eat their food again, but I'll get it to go... and make sure to have my headphones on when I go to pick it up.
Pros: great food
Cons: eternal damnation

I LOVE Sushi in Joy! I eat there frequently. Never had a bad meal or bad service. My family were there the other night, this large party came in with several small children, they sat in the private booth. When some of the children started acting up, the parents simply took them outside individually for a few minutes. When they returned, the children behaved very well for the rest of the meal. THAT's responsible parenting.
Love their Bentos, Mountain Roll, and of course, the Cali Roll!
Pros: great food and service
Cons: space is limited

We've eaten here a number of times over the last 5 years with our now 5 yo daughter. We have always loved the food, been treated well by the staff even though we had a kid with us. We've also invited other families to join us in their little semi private room and had a good experience...with 4 children together. Give it a try!

Wow I can't believe this place got a bad rating by at least one person. This place is "everyone-friendly". I highly recommend this place for a casual dinner with family or even a dinner with your coworkers. Bentos are delicious as well as the other dishes served by both sushi bar and the kitchen.
I also noticed that phone number is wrong up there. It should be 425-576-1743. So if you guys had problem with that number above like I have, please use the number I have put here.
