I love this store! Whenever I visit Baton Rouge, I have to make a stop here. Refinery specializes in "better label" clothing. They are different from my local stores because they are very picky about the clothes they take. Not just the label, but the condition. They are very busy and have a quick turnover. It is very common to find Tommy, Ralph Lauren, Carriage Boutique and Gymboree clothes here. And their shoe selection can't be beat! Prices are very reasonable. They also carry baby equipment and maternity clothes. Sign up for email notification and be in the know about the latest sales and arrivals. Worth the trip.

I didn't find this restaurant until my husband wanted to go here for Nick Saban night - the name misled me into thinking it was a steakhouse or some such. I was very pleasantly surprised to find the most authentic Mexican food I've had this side of Dallas. Everything was top drawer - from the perfectly seasoned beans to the white cloth tablecloths to the side dish of fresh flour tortillas with butter. It is pricier than the average Mexican place but absolutely worth it - and no more than you would spend at a Chili's anyway.

To compliment the daily special 12 oyster for less than $5.00 is a full range of local, national and international beers. Chimes is great any time of the week, but Tuesday then run the oyster special al day.

A warming - Flemmings is very busy on the weekend. My husband and I had reservations on a Saturday but when we got there, they said that we would still have about an hour wait. We were not willing to wait when we had confirmed reservations and almost did not come back (I have heard this complaint from others, so perhaps they need to be more accurate with their reservation scheduling).
I don't think I would ever go back on the weekend. Luckily we came back on a weeknight and the results were much better.
We found the staff to be quite attentive yet not overly so. Just the right level for the type of place and price level. A lovely starter of cheese spread, tapinade and crudite was delivered and we were given time to make our choice. Everything we ordered was delicious. Our steaks were cooked perfectly - a rare thing (no pun intended) in the restaurants I've tried. The sides we got were also good. The homemade bread was the best I'd ever had in a restaurant - crisp on the outside but chewy on the inside. We have been a few times now and the food has never disappointed.
Flemmings is not a cheap night out, especially if you want wine with your dinner (it IS a wine bar as well as a steakhouse!) so expect a decent dent in the wallet. I never mind the occasional splure if the food is worth the price and in my opinion, Flemmings IS worth the price.
Pros: Delicious food, good service
Cons: Expensive, extremely busy on weekends

The Baton Rouge Zoo is quite a drive for most folks -- unless you're one of the lucky ones who live in North Baton Rouge, near the Baker area. Coming from Denham Springs, it's a 45 minute to 1 hour drive, depending on traffic...and that drive gives my kids quite a long time to get keyed up in anticipation...but they are NEVER disappointed!
The Baton Rouge Zoo has all of the exotic animals you'd expect -- giraffes, elephants, zebras, all sorts of monkeys -- and they have some other relatively new additions, too. The Aquarium is cool (thankfully, in the blisteringly hot Louisiana heat), it's dark (the lighting comes from the many tanks built into the wall), and there are lots of varieties of fish, snakes, and other reptiles to see...plus my favorite, the stingray!
Another new addition is the Otter Pond. You may remember the old otter pond, a little round pool to the left when you entered the zoo. Now, in the center of the zoo next to the aquarium, the otters have their own entire habitat built, with a glass wall that lets you see the otters swim underwater as well as above.
There is new equipment in the kids' playground, and it's very nice, durable hard plastic. My kids, age 5 and 9, both have a blast there. The playground is next to the petting zoo, which is also a favorite.
The zoo has a food area that sells burgers, fries, popcorn, and the like. Prices are about average.
If you have a family of 4 and you plan to visit the zoo more than twice in a year, the annual pass is a great value at $35. You can choose from other membership options that allow you to bring more guests or have a caregiver bring your kids in your absence.
For an additional charge, you can ride the train, rent strollers, or visit the (very nice!) gift shop.
If you're looking for a fun way to spend a few hours with the family, don't forget the Baton Rouge Zoo!

These are the best! The best cake here is the Strawberry Shortcake and it is to die for! They also made a pirate themed cake for my son's 4th birthday which was shaped like an actual pirate ship. And it too was delicious!

Louisiana brings to mind images of gumbo, shrimp, and jambalaya. One also thinks about Community Coffee and plain old booze. However, the red stick or what everyone else in the country knows as Baton Rouge is home to one of the country best pizza shop. Fleur de les serves one us the best pizza in the country. There patented rectangular pies are good no matter if you eat them their or take them to go. Do not go their unless you want pizza because this always crowded joint has nothing else on the menu.

Upon entering Bridal Boutique, my mother and I were immediately greeted. We were encouraged to look around to see what style we liked, then the associate assisted us in gathering dresses which suited my taste. I tried on MANY dresses, and, although each one was very unique, they were all beautiful. I found the dress for my wedding there, and the order arrived earlier than the estimated date. The dress was in perfect condition, and I even returned there to inquire about shoes and a purse. It's a great place to shop if you don't want to look "just like all the other brides." And most of the dresses are very affordable, as well.
Pros: Great selection of beautiful bridal dresses
