The Baltimore Museum of Art, called the BMA by locals, is one of my favorite art museums in the world. It's not a huge museum, but what it lacks in size it makes up in collections. The BMA consists of several permanent galleries, including the famous Matisse-packed Cone Collection, an impressive furniture and decorative arts wing, and jewelry and miniature collection, in addition to one large traveling exhibits gallery. The changing exhibits are almost always blockbuster, with recent shows being the Ballet Russe, Impressionists, and Turner's Watercolors and Guash. There's also a huge section of modern and abstract art; while it's not my favorite, it's quite impressive in scale and scope. There's also an outdoor sculpture garden, indoor courtyard, theater, exceptional café, and a fantastic gift shop. Hopkins students used to be able to get in free if they showed their student ID. Programming is plentiful here, so be alert for fantastic evening performances, family art workshops, and gallery talks.

Been here a lot. I love the fantastic food made with fresh ingredients. Its a solid, contemporary menu that keeps classic tastes with modern flair. Service is awesome, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. This is how a restaurant should be. Great value, classy colorful atmosphere. will be back again and with friends.

More
My fiancé and I live close to Captain Larry's and there are other places to go but we go there because IT'S GOOD and not too expensive. We eat dinner at Captain Larry's at least once per week, sometimes more. Mara has started adding some very delicious specials to an already yummy base menu. Regular favorites are the chicken sandwich, the awesome crab cakes, the Caesar salad, and the steamed shrimp. Some of our favorite recent specials have been the BLT with heirloom tomatoes and the gazpacho with fresh avocado.
In addition to the food being great everyone is very friendly, the bar has a good home-town feeling and they have good drinks! I hear that they just started having "Family Night" on Tuesdays with no smoking. It's usually not overly smoky when we eat there, but it will be wonderful to have a night that's guaranteed to be smoke free.
Pros: food, drinks, service
Cons: it "*is* a bar, so don't go expecting a restaurant-type experience

Ryleigh's Brew Pub is located in the heart of Federal Hill on Cross Street across from the Cross Street Market. Ryleighs offers a casual/chic atmosphere. Ryleighs caters to students/young professionals. The quesadillas are awesome and they have an extensive appetizer menu. During the week, you can get a seat without a problem. Service is OK. Some experiences have been wonderful, but our last waiter was slow.

New No Da Ji is an Asian restaurant on North Charles Street in Baltimore City that serves all the traditional favorites--but my favorite part of this restaurant is the fabulous buffet. It's an all-you-can eat place, and they have all kinds of fantastic Asian delights--from dishes like beef with broccoli to lo mein noodles to sushi. For me, it was a great way to try many new things without having to go out on a limb and pay for an entire entree. Definitely a nice place within walking distance of Hopkins to visit.

I went here for restaurant week and had an amazing experience. I asked the bartender to choose my items for me and she did beautifully. She was fun, attentive and a pleasure to be around. The hostesses were the same way. The food itself was unreal also. If you go, make sure to have the Hawaiian Hauipu (sic) because it is incredible.
Pros: Great Service, Incredible Food
Cons: Can't think of any

More
Right on O'Donnell Square, Helen's Garden is a local institution. Once you travel through the very narrow front entrance hallway, you will enter into the restaurant, which is housed in what appears to be two converted townhouses (avoid the attic room if you can in summer because it can be quite hot). The cuisine is eclectic, mostly American with a wide range of options including several vegetarian choices. Wine and beer are served as well as delicious desserts.
Of course, if you have appetizers, drinks, and desserts, any restaurant can add up. But it's still quite a steal. Wednesdays several of the entrees are offered for less than $14 each. Good specials include Greek chicken, Black and Bleu salad, Pork Chops, and Catfish. Note: Parking can be a challenge in O'Donnell Square.

I think the best way to experience Indian food for the first time is by trying a buffet. MG's lunchtime buffet is reasonably priced and conveniently located in the heart of Mt. Vernon. Service is lacking a bit, but the lunchtime crowds tend to overwhelm the servers. The nan is excellent, and the cucumber and mango chutneys are superb. Mughal is a reliable favorite of mine for good Indian food at a fair price.
