The Charles Village Pub is located in the center of Charles Village on St. Paul Street, and from the outside doesn't look like much. Sadly, that's what I'd have to say for the inside too. Though the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, they are a reasonably priced place to get a drink in the area. Their food is decent, and although maybe won't be winning any Zagat awards any time soon, is comparable to other pub foods. Not one of my favorite places to go, but I tend to value atmosphere over price. If you're looking for a cheap beer, this place may be for you.

Charles Village Pub, called CVP by the locals, is an amalgam of a local watering hole and a laid-back college bar. Unfortunately for both crowds, the smoky atmosphere and dim lighting doesn't do much to hide the sub-par food and appetizers. Is the food cheap? Yes. Is the food delicious? Well, I'll leave that up to you, but don't expect to see me there.

What can you expect out of a pub anyway? I don’t think it’s that great; the last time I went there the waitress had such an attitude problem. Also, it’s a shady place, but hey, if you want affordable drinks and don’t want to go too far from the Hopkins campus, this is the place for you.

If you don't mind eating in a dim, murky fog of cigarette and cigar smoke, then Charles Village Pub is your kind of bar. Seating is often difficult to find, and conversation can be impossible as a result of the crowding. The prices are OK at best. Some of their food is pretty good, and they have a full bar, but the atmosphere is lacking when compared to other local bars.
