Spoons is a nice alternative to Starbucks and is located in the heart of Federal Hill. Coffee is pretty good here, and Spoons prides themselves on both the beans and the coffee. Food isn't bad either, but is about as pricey as its national chain competitors. For a few hours of chitchat with a friend, this laid back coffeehouse is a great pick.

Spoons is a really cool coffeehouse, a decent size with lots of tables and couches etc. For a Saturday at 10am, it was full and bustling. Not only does this place serve coffee, but they have a full menu too, but I didn't check out the menu because I already had my breakfast.
For coffee I decided to get an Iced Mocha. The coffee was VERY bitter, which is surprising for a mocha, and even more surprising that I had to put a whole sachet of Splenda into it, which I don't normally have to do. However, it left me nice and jittery. If you happen to live in the area, or are coming back from the bars there, this is a cool place to chill and play a board game etc (they have games and books for customers to use).

Or, if you're starving, you can get an incredibly huge (and tasty) breakfast. It's the perfect place to meet people when you don't want to be drinking alcohol.
I've never had a bad breakfast there and I love the artsy-fartsy atmosphere--- a little like Berkeley California. Except the prices are much better.
