The Charles Theatre is a great place to go to catch the latest limited release or independent film. I remember going to The Charles to see Amelie when it first came out; the theater was absolutely packed! There are a few screens at this theater, but be warned-- each theater is really small and steep. The atmosphere is very urban chic, and last time I visited, they had a full-service espresso bar so you could sip on a latte during the flick. They also run monthly movie discussion screenings, and occasionally have bagels and a movie weekends. It's a great change from the mega theaters of the suburbs. We have lived in two SM communities. We have had a great experience with them. Their service is fast and the people are very friendly. Our apartment was in top condition when we moved in. Any maintenence issues are taken care of the day you call. We have had no problems with pests. Our complex is safe and quiet. They offer discounts on rent for teachers, UM students, and police officers! Also, at some communities the utilities are included in the rent!

The Broadview Apartment building has a lot going for it--it's fairly big, so there are many units available most of the time. It has apartments ranging from studios to two bedrooms, although the two bedrooms are fairly hard to get since there are not quite as many of them. It doesn't have much for architectural interest, but it does have an electronic security system and a 24 hr doorperson. Maintenance is good also. And the rents are very reasonable for the area. Overall, a good place to be.

University West is two buildings of beautiful apartments, 104 and 106. Almost all have very high ceilings, hardwood floors, pedestal sinks, and built-in china cabinets and bookshelves. Many have sun rooms and plenty of closet space. The leasing staff is helpful but often forgetful; the super is a friendly and kind gentleman. Laundry facilities are in the basement of each building, but washers are often broken. There's also basement storage for free, but it's pretty musty down there. No parking though, so you'll have to find some on the street, which usually isn't too much of a problem. This is a major college student magnet though, so expect some sound pollution. It's also across the street from Johns Hopkins' lacrosse field, which can get loud on the weekends.

Found the place as a secured home with all the caring staff and immediate assistance. The friendly staff and perfect management activities done by southern management is real worth.

Although the Cambridge at 3900 talks a big talk with its fancy name, fancy lobby, and income requirement, I wouldn't classify it as the best of apartments. It reminds me a lot of the Carlyle, only on Charles Street. The apartments themselves are older and could use a bit of renovation. A few friends lived here, and while I enjoyed visiting, I don't think I'd want to live there. They are large apartments though, so if space and quietness are your goals, you'll find them at 3900.

Wyman Towers is home to many, many Johns Hopkins students. This high rise is conveniently located for most undergraduates, so you'll find a large younger population here. The apartments themselves are nothing to crow about, but they are relatively safe and clean. You can find cheaper and better quality apartments on University Parkway than those on Charles Street/St. Paul, so keep that in mind.

Though we ended up not ready to make a committment to buy, when we first came to Baltimore, friends of ours recommeded Coldwell Banker. The agent we met with was very low pressure. He had been selling homes in Baltimore for 25 years. Born and raised here, he knew everything about the city and was eager to share this knowledge with us. Riding around with him was like getting a free tour of Baltimore, and we learned a lot about Baltimore neighborhoods. I felt confident that he took pride in making a good match, not just a quick sale. If we were ready to buy, I would have felt very confident with this particular agent at Coldwell Banker.

The Marylander is a huge magnet for college students at the nearby Johns Hopkins University. This is a high-rise apartment complex right by Union Memorial Hospital, so expect to hear plenty of ambulance sirens.
Overall, apartments are spacious and very affordable. The building itself is quite old, and it could use new elevators; the present ones are scary, to say the least. Walls are thin here, and you can easily hear conversations walking down the corridor on each floor. There's much better apartments to be found in Charles Village, but this is one of the most reasonably-priced options.
