Sound Garden looks like a run down store on the corner in Fells Point, but it has so much to offer. Not only can you find used CDs at great prices, but they have a great deal of hard to find CDs that other used stores might not even have. I've also had a good experience with the employees. There have been times when I was having a hard time finding what I was looking for and they have been more than happy to help me find it.

Record & Tape Traders near Johns Hopkins University is good store to purchase used CDs at low prices. The selection here is pretty cool, especially the used CDs. They are all guaranteed not to skip so there is nothing to worry about. It's a great way to add to your music library without breaking the bank.

Reptilian opened in 1989, and to this day, it's still THE place to satisfy your punk, indie, noise, hardcore, garage, and local music cravings.
I remember going to the shop not long after it opened, as a 14-year old punk rocker, and being absolutely overwhelmed by so much music that I just HAD to have.
Since then, they've added racks of obscure and hard to find magazines, such as Answer Me! and Hate. You'll also find tons of zines from Baltimore and elsewhere. They have racks of random comic books; and hard to find, cult classic movies.
Reptilian also boasts their own record label, as well as partnerships with other labels.
Visit their website at www.reptilianrecords.com to see what's new, who's on tour, and other general info.
*Note: Reptilian will be moving to 2547 N. Howard Street sometime this summer. Check their site for updates.

Located right across the street from the Peabody, Ted's Musicians Shop offers most of the essentials you'll need to support you music habit. After having a disappointing experience at a big box where the employees know close to nothing about what they are selling, someone recommended Ted's to me. The location is convenient, though to get what you want you might have to make more than one trip. They don't carry a million of everything in stock, just one or two, and when they are sold, Ted's will order more. That's the downside, I guess, of a Mom and Pop. But on the upside, they do know what they are talking about and the prices are not too bad in comparison with the big box.

More
We were regular customers at Farrell Violions when our child was studying cello. We bought strings there and had them do some repairs. We also bought a cello from them. Our child was allowed to try as many instruments as she wanted in the shop and had as much time as needed to make a decision. The cello we bought was very good for the price we paid. Mr. Farrell was very pleasant to deal with and the shop is full of interesting things to look at while you wait.
