We've been to many movies at the Senator over the years and have always enjoyed the experience. The short film instead of endless commercials and previews is lots of fun and often informative, too. The theater owner often will speak from the stage to the audience. I also love the displays of memorabilia from John Waters movies that premiered there. It is a Baltimore landmark not to be missed. Good popcorn, too!

The Charles theater is the place to go to see small release, independent movies. Lots of documentaries, foreign films, and other movies that you can't find other places. Tickets prices are comparable to chain theaters, but your money is supporting a local Baltimore business, which is a good thing. They have the regular snacks, and they don't skimp on the free cups for water.

The Charles is a wonderful place to see a film. We do "event" screenings
for The Sun's Reader Rewards program there and the staff is wonderful!
Accomodating and friendly, they go out of their way to make our events
effortless.
Comfortable seating in the lobby, several microphones (and the batteries
are ALWAYS fresh), and a true love of the art of film that shows.
The sound system and screens are state of the art yet The Charles
manages to maintain the feel of an old film house.
Great place to see the latest release or a classic!
Bravo!

If you're looking for a really unique date idea, Bengies Drive-In may be what you're looking for. It's one of the only operational drive-in theaters left in the US, and it's totally worth a visit. They have triple features for the bulk of the summer--take some friends, or that special someone, and head on out--but be warned, it's not going to be an early night. Movies don't start unitl night fall, and when you're watching 3 in a row, that means you don't get home until the wee hours of the morning.

This is a very popular theatre on Charles (hence the name, natch). They specialize in independent films and films that don't get a wide release. It's really not in competition with the multiplexes. Great old theatre building with lots of character. Prices are about the same as you would pay elsewhere. Make a night of it and get some tapas at Tapas Teatro!

More
The Rotunda theater is a small cinema with two screens. You won't find a huge crowd at the movies here, as most of the films are either dramas or independent releases. The crowd is mainly locals and Johns Hopkins students, which makes for a quiet and peaceful viewing. You won't get the latest and greatest in sound or seating, but it's a more than comfortable enough alternative to the megaplex.

We just recently went here to see Zorro with Antonia Banderas. I thought the movie was clean and easy to find. You have your choice of four or five movies. The parking was good. I do feel that the seats were not as comfortable as they could be. They were too low. The show was okay. I enjoyed getting out and spending the day with my daughter. We had a lovely time. There was nothing bad about this experience only I would have liked for seats to have been easier to sit in for the length of the movie.
I would go back again if it had a show that I wanted to see.
