This is one of my favorite theaters in the Baltimore area. It was restored some years back and the owner has revived the tradition of showing a short film before the main feature, which is just a lot of fun and such a nice change from previews and commercials. The seating is on an almost flat floor so try not to get stuck behind someone with big hair. They used to have balcony seating for private groups and I seem to remember hearing that it was in closed booths so you didn't have to be really quiet. Do check on that if interested since it might not be the case anymore. John Waters movies always premier here (I think) and they have the stars' handprints and signatures in the sidewalk out front. So fun!

We've been to many movies at the Senator over the years and have always enjoyed the experience. The short film instead of endless commercials and previews is lots of fun and often informative, too. The theater owner often will speak from the stage to the audience. I also love the displays of memorabilia from John Waters movies that premiered there. It is a Baltimore landmark not to be missed. Good popcorn, too!

The Senator Theater is a wonderful one-screen theater in Baltimore. From the majestic marquee advertising the latest screening to the plush red and gold interior, the Senator is, in my opinion, THE theater to attend for premieres. Aside from being a throw-back to the days of old, the Senator is a refreshing change from the mega-plexes of stadium seating; its main drawback are the old seats that are less than ideal for people taller than your average fourth grader. Still, if you're a diehard Harry Potter or Star Wars fan, what's a little discomfort when you can experience a premiere in style?

The Senator is one of Baltimore's gems--a historic theater with a lot of the charm of yesteryear. They tend to hold a lot of local premieres at the Senator, and people will line up for days in order to get tickets. My favorite experience there was a midnight showing of Harry Potter. Their screen is enormous, but they only have one of them--but it's a great place to go see a movie so long as they have the one you want to see.

The Senator is the place all of the Baltimore based movies have their screenings. The theater is old and charming with a huge screen and wonderful Dolby surround sound. Outside on the sidewalk is a mimic Hollywood walk of fame style walkway with the names and actors from the Baltimore screenings held here.

This is a huge one-screen theater in Baltimore. This place is a real historic treasure - the inside is beautiful. Make sure to check out the sidewalk outside and the special exhibits inside. I saw the Star Wars releases here and Saving Private Ryan. These movies show off the spectacular sound system installed in the theater. You could feel the rumble of the tanks in the distance. It was amazing.

The Senator Theater is a historic landmark with perpetual appeal. The second-largest feature film theater in the country behind the Chinatown theater in LA, the Senator hosts world premieres of many major motion pictures, and even has its own little walk of fame in the front showcasing the various films which have premiered there over the years. There is only one screen, and 900 seats, and aside from possibly the first couple rows, there are no bad seats in the house. The staff is very friendly and competent, and their collection of movie memorabilia is impressive. A must-see for any movie aficionado.

The Senator, like the Charles Theater, is a great place to catch smaller films. It also has a tendency to show movies that have a local connection, like A Dirty Shame or Ladder 49. The fun part is that many movie premieres have occurred there, so the theater is full of memorabilia, and stars have left their footprints outside. The only downside is that it is in a slightly grotty area, so be careful when walking around at night.

The main competitor to the Charles Theater is the Senator, located in a run-down building on York Road. This is kind of a famous place, built in the 1930s in grand art deco style, the Senator has seen better days. Nevertheless many Baltimore premiers have happened here, including (of course) John Water's and Barry Levinson's films. Now the theater shows a combination of first-run films, art films, etc. It is nice to have an alternative to the giant mega-plex.

I haven't met a person in Maryland yet who HASN'T been to (or heard of) the Senator theater. Not only is it a historical theater, but when movie premiers are held in Baltimore this is the theater they are at. With a large amount of seating, an "old time" theater feel and probably the biggest movie screen I've ever seen (next to an IMAX) the Senator is a great place to see a movie. There is a really friendly "resident dog" that lives in there too...he's the cutest thing. Definitely worth seeing a movie there at least once--its a different experience than your used to.
