Although I don't attend Faith Temple Ministries, I have a daughter-in-law who does. This is a nondenominational church with a congregation that is on fire for the Lord. They are problem solvers and solution finders. For instance, when they could not find a meeting place that they could afford, they bought the old movie theatre downtown and converted it to the church building. They saved the theatre and are saving lives on a regular basis.

We needed a driveway extension poured and a concrete pad poured for a shed. Both of these projects were on a steeply sloped lot, which ran down to Lake Verona. No one would be able to drive a concrete truck down to the points where we needed the concrete poured. Our contractor called Jahna Concrete because he knew they would be able to do this difficult job without a problem and they proved him right. My husband once had his own business. He was dependent on our family diesel van for picking up and delivering items for his business. When the van broke down and wouldn't run, we could not take it to a dealership to have it repaired because we didn't have the money. Mr. Chesnutt was willing to fix the van and allow us to make payments on the repair. He did an excellent job and we didn't have anymore problems with the van.

When we first moved to Avon Park, everyone we met asked if we went to church and if so, where. After trying several other churches in town, we landed at First Baptist. We enjoy the Bible teaching, fellowship and activities here. We also cherish the support of all the friends we've made in the past 18 years.

After my husband died, I had Lawler Wells take over the job of maintaining the sprinkler system in and maintenance of my large yard. He did an excellent job keeping everything looking lush and beautiful. When I moved to a smaller home on a smaller lot, Lawler resodded the lot and refurbished the sprinkler system. Although I think he is overpriced, he does do an excellent job.

From summer youth camps to senior programs, they've got it all at South Florida Community College! South Florida Community College is a public community college serving DeSoto, Hardee, and Highlands Counties. It consists of several schools - the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Applied Sciences and Technologies, and the School of Adult and Community College. I've enjoyed several community college programs.
My favorite is the music program. The college is the sponsor of the SFCC Community Orchestra and the SFCC Highlands County Concert Band. These community music groups provide a forum for local musicians to share their talents. Concerts are held in the 1,500 seat auditorium.

Bill Stephenson and his wife spend many, many hours gathering, organizing and distributing food, clothing, household articles and all the other items that the Church Service Center provides to people in need. When my husband was injured at work, there was a time when we needed food and the Church Service Center helped us out. Their help was given without judgment and they didn't ask for anything in return. The Stephensons are good, kind people - the kind of people this world needs more of.
