I made a counted cross stitch picture as a gift and wanted an engraved brass plaque to put on the frame. I found what I needed in a catalog but it would have cost close to $15 and I didn't want to spend that much money. After a lot of searching, I learned that Heartland Engraving was able to make exactly what I wanted for only a couple of dollars. It was the perfect final addition to my handmade gift.

I find fabulous deals at Big Lots. I always buy my household bleach there because it is 99 cents a gallon. Watch for the buggies up front, full of bargains. Ken, the manager, will put merchandise in there at 75% to 90% off! On top of the corporate sales (look for weekly ads), these prices are hard to beat. If you see a bargain, though, you'd better grab it because it probably won't be there next time you stop in.

Follow the dots to Beall's Outlet store and save BIG! Even though this store is a bit unkempt and disorganized, it IS full of bargains. You just may have to dig a bit for the really good ones. If you're looking for a certain size, you'll have to look way beyond the racks with that size. The merchandise consists mostly of clothing for men, women and children but also includes clothing accessories, seasonal decorations, games, toys, bedding and household decor items. Another bargain lovers' delight.

Just down the street/across the road from Bank of America, World Of Flowers is easy to find. They often have balloons on a sign at the corner of W. Morrill Street and US 27 which help, too. Although there are several floral shops in the area, World Of Flowers is one of my favorites because they give superb customer service. Whenever I go to Ridge Florist, the largest in the area, I always feel like I'm causing a problem for the person helping me. This has never been the case at World Of Flowers!
World of Flowers has a large inventory of fresh flowers, tropicals, plants, European/dish gardens, contemporary and traditional arrangements, high-style floral arrangements, silk arrangements, dried floral arrangements, an extensive gift line, gourmet and fruit baskets, gift baskets, greeting cards and candles. They do arrangements for weddings and funeral designs, too.

Although this couple opened their original shop near Food Lion in Sebring, this is the only store they still own. They were the original discount card shop in Highlands County. I have shopped their stores for almost 20 years now and I am still pleased with what I buy from them, but I don't think they have quite the variety they once did. Since I've learned the Dollar Tree sells all their cards at 2/$1, they are now my first choice when I am looking for cards but Dollar Tree's choice is very limited. Discount Cards is where I go for the cards I can't find at Dollar Tree.
Discount Cards also sells some boxed cards, calendars, gift wrapping supplies (although I think Dollar Tree has much better prices on wrapping) and a few miscellaneous gift items. They had some beautiful purses at mid-range prices the last time I was in there. Situated in the shopping center next to Bingo, Discount Cards sells bingo daubers, markers and some other bingo supplies.

My late husband had several items embroidered at Designer's Top Shop. They have a nice little shop in downtown Avon Park not too far off Main Street. They made a couple of embroidered patches and baseball caps for my husband. The woman who owns the shop is very helpful in designing the item you're interested in and her work is very good, but their turn around time has always taken longer than first promised.
Designer's Top Shop sells shirts, caps, jackets, shorts and a few other items in their store (although their prices seem high to me). They will either screen print or embroider a design on these items or something you've brought in.

I'd been to Family Dollar stores in the past and didn't like them. I'd never visited a Dollar General Store until this past Christmas because I thought they were just like Family Dollar. I got a flier for Dollar General in the mail and thought some of the prices were very good so I went to look around. I ended up almost filling my cart - lol! I bought some name brand toys at very good prices and lots and lots of stocking stuffers for family and friends.

Although not a super store like Wal-Mart, Federal Discount does have some prices which are comparable and even a little less. You've really got to know your prices and compare, though, or you will probably overpay. Federal Discount has some items which Wal-Mart does not stock. Federal Discount is much easier to get in and out of than Wal-Mart.

I say Freda's Fantasies looks like an interesting shop because in the ten or so years I've known of its existence, I have never found it open. And I pass by there during daytime hours - not the middle of the night. There is a sign on the door with a phone number that says you can call for an appointment but that doesn't seem very convenient to me. From standing outside and looking in, the shop seems to be FULL of fabulous items. I just hope I find it open one day.
