Like most people, I hate nursing homes. Both of my grandmothers had to live in nursing homes the last years of their lives. It is my fear that I'll have to live in one, too; however, if I ever do, I would probably choose the Oaks. A young friend of ours recently had to stay at the Oaks for several months after having emergency surgery which nearly killed him. When we went to visit him, there was no nursing home odor permeating the halls and he seemed to be happy with the care he received there. Also, it was voted the Best Nursing Home Assisted Living facility in Highlands County.

Although not a super store like Wal-Mart, Federal Discount does have some prices which are comparable and even a little less. You've really got to know your prices and compare, though, or you will probably overpay. Federal Discount has some items which Wal-Mart does not stock. Federal Discount is much easier to get in and out of than Wal-Mart.

When we first moved to Avon Park, everyone we met asked if we went to church and if so, where. After trying several other churches in town, we landed at First Baptist. We enjoy the Bible teaching, fellowship and activities here. We also cherish the support of all the friends we've made in the past 18 years.

The only reason I stop at Circle K is to get gas. I believe I bought a Slurpee once but I rarely even go into the store since they have fully automated pumps where I can gas and go. They have four lanes with eight pumps, which seems to be plenty even at this busy intersection. I rarely have to wait. It's also one of the most convenient stations to where I live, in the south end of town. I was there recently and, for the first time ever, was not able to get a receipt from the pump. This is a common practice at our local Shell and Texaco stations but is quite unusual at this Circle K.
