Master Gohring has asked that I share my experiences with the readers. I have been a student in his Tiger Crane Kung Fu program since February, and I love it. My family first found to Master's Gohring's school from an ad in Austin Family as an activity for my son, and my wife (who takes Tai Chi) and my son and I are all now his students. I've seen a number of benefits from training with Master Gohring: increased flexibility and stamina, more energy, and a group of encouraging, enthusiatic people around me. I won't lie, it is difficult, and you will be tired at the end of each class. But you feel great afterwards too. Also, I was recently away from class for several weeks (I bought a house!), and welcomed back with a smile from everyone at the school. I HIGHLY recommend anyone considering studying the martial arts to consider Master Gohring's Tai Chi and Kung Fu.

I have been bringing my son Samuel to Master Gohring's class for almost two years now and during this time he has shown great promise. Originally I enrolled him into the class to learn self-defense due to bullies picking on him at school. What Samuel has learned goes further than just self-defense, he has learned and gained knowledge of the Kungfu art and how to incorporate these teachings into everyday life. Samuel's focus in school has improved tremendously, his patience is getting better when it comes to problem solving and his drive to due his best in whatever has improved.
Faith, Respect, Perseverance, Patience and Humility is what Master Gohring teaches his students and Sifu's patience with the students and love for the art is what helps all the students understand and enjoy Kungfu and Tai Chi.
Samuel really enjoys Kungfu and I really enjoy taking him to class and being around such a cool atmosphere. Lookout bullies the Cub has become the Tiger.

I began Tai Chi in Jan. 2005. My first question was “am I too old to start this”. My expectations at the time were simply for stress relief and exercise that would be gentle on my joints, especially my knees. Now seven sashes later, I’m about to graduate to Brown Sash while celebrating my last year in my fifties. My expectations of stress relief and “soft” exercise have been far exceeded. Through the excellent teaching of Master Gohring and his staff, I am able to accomplish things I never thought I could possibly do when I stepped through the door. The benefits of core strength, proper breathing, balance and focus become a part of you while learning the Tai Chi forms, something that I can use daily in my life, not just when in class. Although the applications of each of the moves in the form has never been my strong point, at this level and after a lot of patience on my part and that of Master Gohring and staff, I am finally realizing the power of the form. Although I was asked if I could write a review, I gladly do so and recommend Master Gohring’s Tai Chi for anyone that would like to learn in a caring experienced environment.

After almost a year at Master Gohring's Tai Chi and Kung Fu, I can definitely say that his program is more expansive and comprehensive than any other martial arts studio I have trained at. He presents a wide variety of styles and an ever-increasing array of forms and drills with which to improve one's awareness of the body, self-defense skills and overall health. Empty-hand, weapon, external, internal, fast, slow - it's all there to hone different areas of your mind and body, but Sifu Gohring also retains a traditional code of martial ethics, forming a spiritual framework that elevates his classes from sport training into a life practice. It's not a cult, a religion, or any other subversive faction, but an additional way of approaching the challenges of life with focus, humility, and determination. Master Gohring requests we review his work as part of our graduation application, in addition to the benefits of making us meditate on what we have learned, this shows his constant desire for feedback to make sure he is meeting the student's needs and improving his teaching. Part of his humility admits that no matter one's station, there is always room for improvement, and he practices the focus and determination which by example to show us that reaching our goals is a possibility in within our grasp.

I joined Master Gohring's Tai Chi and King Fu in June of 2007. Although I have only been a student a short time, I have already experienced a variety of benefits from practicing tai chi. Master Gohring asked me to share some of my experiences with people here, and I am more than happy to help!
I started taking tai chi as a gift to myself - something I hadn't done much of in the past. I knew that increasing my activity would be a benefit in and of itself, but I have also seen an increase in energy, balance, and flexibility. I feel better after class than I ever did at the gym. When I miss class, I truly miss being there; when I missed going to the gym, I was relieved to avoid laundry!
Any anxiety I had about being out of shape or uncoordinated were quickly dispelled. Master Gohring makes every student feel successful, no matter how small the accomplishment may seem. Even a small correction in position can suddenly make the whole posture make sense! It's these small successes that bolster my confidence and make traveling the path to becoming a Black Sash so enjoyable.
The balance of being able to see everything I have accomplished versus the goals I have yet to reach make learning with Master Gohring one of the best experiences I have ever had. I have always had difficulty seeing positives in my progress, but in class I am reminded of how far I have come in just a few short months. I plan to continue with my training for the rest of my life - I am sure that even when I do become a Black Sash, there will still be much to learn!

I began my adventure with Tai Chi back in Sept of 2005. I first started under my Dr's recommendation. In my case (not scientifically evaluated), I felt the benefits of practicing the form almost immediately. In additon to the anticipated effects, I have lost 40 pounds since starting Tai Chi, mostly due to not feeling the need for a late evening "booster" food bindge. Having been asked to share my story, I have chosen to share one of the many aspects of Master Gohring's school that I enjoy the most.
Master Gohring has his classes set up so that you are involved in multiple activities in each class. Yes, you start learning the positions and moves, but you rapidly start learning applications to the moves--"self-defense", and we also learn the use of some traditional weapon forms as well. I think the most interesting aspect of learning from Master Gohring is that he is always looking to improve and broaden his curriculum, a sign of a true Master.

My husband and I started practicing Tai Chi at Master Gohring's in April 2006. We wanted to do something together and Tai Chi was a compromise between my distance running and his computer games. Practicing Tai Chi has been a great experience for us both and I'm glad that we made the investment. It's a surprisingly good workout (I never thought my thighs could hurt more after 5 minutes in a Tai Chi posture than they would after a 2 hour run!!!), but also a great source for stress relief. It is so nice to come in to class after a busy work day because once I'm practicing Tai Chi the postures require my full attention and everything else melts away. I also really appreciate how supportive everyone (from Master Gohring to the brand new white sashes) at the school is - it makes such a big difference to be able to learn challenging new things in a caring environment. In the interest of full disclosure, Master Gohring did ask us to write a review, but I honestly only have nice things to say.

Hi, I have been in Sifu's Kung Fu youth classes for 2 years now. I am almost half way to being a black sash. I like Sifu's classes. He makes things interesting and fun. There have been times I thought about giving up but I remembered the life skills and the five hearts which reminded me of my goal to be a black sash. Master Gorhing's school of Tai Chi and Kung Fu is the best out of the three schools I have been to.

I began taking classes at Master Gohring's Tai' chi and Kung Fu in Austin, TX in 2003. At that time I had to literally drag myself in the door using a walker. I had numerous serious health problems including crippling back pain and was severely depressed.
I could feel an immediate difference in my state of mind each time I entered the door to the school. Although I could not hardly participate in classes at first, the support I received from the staff and my fellow students gave me the courage to keep coming to and participating in classes.
After a few weeks I not only felt better mentally and emotionally but physically as well. Gradually I began to improve more and more. If I missed a class I noticed that I felt "not quiet right" until I made it back to class. After a few months I was able to trade the walker for a cane.
As I continue to study at Master Gohring's Tai' Chi and Kung Fu I continue to improve. To date, I no longer use a cane, my endurance and balance have improved greatly, I have lost significant weight, reduced the number of medications that I have to take and generally feel healthier, happier and more confident.
In summary, my experience at Master Gohring's Tai' Chi and Kung Fu has completely transformed my life for the absolute best!
