It's New To Me is located near many other furniture stores on Burnet Road. They sell upscale resale furniture, either consigned from private owners, or sometimes floor models from other companies. The sales people there were a little pushy, but I am not big on sales people helping me until I ask them too. The prices were definitely upscale too, when I think consignment/used, I would expect lower prices. Clean store, nice location.

Another local small computer store sent me to Mr Notebook after they diagnosed my HP with a bad motherboard. The Note guy told me that there was a little known recall on my model even though it was out of warranty. They handled the whole thing for a small fee and got my laptop back with a new systemboard! They saved me hundreds of dollars and all my data. Most places would have just charged me the $450 to "replace" the systemboard and not told me about the secret recall. Thx

Cheapo's is the granddaddy of used record stores in Austin. Other shops may have a bin or two of used CDs and that's it. Cheapo's has dozen or so bins. In fact Cheapo's has so many used CDs they most recent arrivals are divided up into bins marking the day they came in. I think some of the regulars come in every day just to see what recently came in. Beware though, once you start flipping through the use CDs you won't be able to stop. You'll find things you love, an album that you lost in your most recent move and would love to have back, and things to just plain make you laugh (oh my god! I remember this song!!)

We have been taking our cars to Alex for many years, and his service is always first-rate. He can fix about anything in a car, foreign or domestic, and, on the rare occasion that he can't, he'll steer you to the best place. Alex is reliable, honest, and really cares about his customers--this must be why they are so loyal.

You must visit this liquor store if you're a mom or dad that likes to bring their kids everywhere with them. The owners have a little son who is adorable! They are so friendly and remember your name. The selection is awesome and the prices can't be beat! They are in the shopping center at Lamar and Airport near Big Lots and Hancock Fabrics.

Amy's Ice Cream is quite simply the best around. The flavors are wonderful, the crush-ins are tasty and often go really well with the flavors, and the staff is cheerdul and friendly.
PROS: Best ice cream to be found.
CONS: Can't rely on them always having your favorite flavor.

I have been traveling the world and have had the opportunity to go to some exceptional salons in Tokyo, London, New York, and Paris. I was a little worried about finding a hairdresser in Austin. I was excited to see that Avant was still around (it seems salons come and go), still winning awards, still hip yet not pretentious, and my stylist from 10 years ago, Daisy was still there. I went in for my visit last week and had a great experience. Daisys assistant Lacy gave me a great shampoo and massage (i love those Aveda scents), Daisy was a joy to visit not to mention a great haircut, then as I was checking out Jackie, Avants manager for as long as I can remember welcomed me back home. It left me feeling so special. Its great to be back in Austin.
I have returned to Avant since I wrote this review. I needed to get my hair color and was refered to Vanessa by one of my co workers. I was extremely nervous having had some awfull experiences in the past.... all i have to say is that New Orleans lost is Austins gain!!! I have always heard that AVANT has a world class educational program and i have now experienced the results. Vanessa had a young stylist she is training (Jennifer) who was as professional as Daisys assistant Lacy. If I ever can not get with Daisy or Vanessa .... Lacy and Jennifer are on my radar.
Thanks Avant for taking the anxiety out of the salon experience and replacing it with joyful anticipation! Till next we meet.............
