This is an excellent place to introduce smaller children to Nature and Science. There is a small museum and an outdoor trail with some rescued animals, and what child doesn't love animals? They host a lot of programs including wildlife, caving, astronomy and endangered species. Its a great place to experience nature with your children, more centered toward small children (ages 2 -5). Admission is free.

I am so happy I found Kellie over at Pride and Groom! She is so good with my neurotic kitty, Taboo. He has to go in periodically to be de-matted and partially shaved. He cries and fusses and Kellie is so good with him! She trimmed Taboo up more this time and he looks wonderful!
I highly recommend Pride and Groom and Kellie!
Pros: Really great people!
Cons: Salon in Manchaca, but not a drawback for South Austin

Lather has curb appeal and an urban upbeat energy. I love the design of the space and thoroughly enjoyed my first salon experience with Kim Bacon. She is professional, warm and made me feel right at home. Kim gave me exactly what I asked for in my color and cut. I now have someone I can both trust and enjoy seeing!
Pros: Kim Bacon

I'm reserved to offer up my hearty endorsement of Vivo simply because I'd rather not wait longer for a table! But the secret is already out: once a hidden east Austin gem, Vivo is cranking out the best mexican food and tastiest margaritas in a sophisticated setting and people have noticed.
The wait might be long on weekends, but it's certainly bearable with a Sangria Margarita in a hulking glass garnished with a fresh cut flower. It might be the only drink you need.
Live entertainment and DJs also set the tone on weekends with an elaborate outdoor patio for dining with enough plants and waterfalls makes you feel like you're on vacation.
What's great about Vivo is the healthy fresh mexican food with an authentic mexican flair: a fresh air from the typical tex mex. Don't pass up the puffy tacos!
Females in your dining party get free roses when leaving and I'm told of special touches in the girls' bathroom.
