Lone Star Riverboat 3/27/2006

I've lived in Austin for quite a while and knew all about the bats, although I always felt like I hadn't really seen them at their best. So, I decided to book a spot for the Lone Star Riverboats. You get on this boat, and they take you for a ride up and down Town Lake, giving you a tour guide of things by the lake. Then, you sort of park on a spot and see the bats come out from under the bridge. There's nothing like it. You get to see, smell and feel the bats at their glory. It's a great activity if you have out of town guests coming to Austin. more

View the bats 9/16/2005

This is a great way to enjoy the Austin tradition of watching the bats fly in the early evening hours. Lone Star Riverboat offers public bat watching and sight seeing cruises. If you are looking for a more private setting they can help you here also because they specialize in private parties and the double decker paddle boat is a perfect setting. more

Bats are best seen here 9/4/2005

The Lonestar Riverboat Cruise is located right in the heart of Austin, and offers nighttime cruises to do all of your bat watching from the best seats available. The price for the boats is fairly cheap, and it does have it's slow days, and days where it is way to crowded, but the people and facilities are nice. more

The Lone Star Cruise is a neat way to see the bats 8/20/2005

THE LONE STAR RIVERBOAT CRUISE IS A GREAT WAY TO SEE PARTS OF AUSTIN WE AUSTINITES TAKE FOR GRANTED AND LOOK OVER EVERYDAY. I KNOW THAT NOT MANY PEOPLE THINK OF TOWN LAKE AS BEAUTIFUL, BUT AT TWILIGHT WITH A MILLION BATS FLYING OUT, IT IS A SIGHT TO BEHOLD. THEY HAVE AN OLDER BOAT, AND IT IS BYOB, SO BRING SOME DRINKS AND ENJOY THE EVENING. more

Enjoy the views 8/19/2005

Lone star riverboat on town lake was operated since 1987. You can take their sunset cruise to witness the spectacular emergence of the famous Mexican free tail bats. In the summer time, you can see millions of bats flying out from the congress bridge, and taking this cruise gives you totally different view compared to standing on the bridge. more

The bats will blow you away. 8/18/2005

The seats on the boat are not cushioned so that's a drawback. But forget the seats. When I first told my brother and a friend that we were going to see the bats, they looked at me like it was going to be a night from hell or a nightmare. I am not an animal person myself but wanted to try something different that night. We never imagined having such a great time. The bats were absolutely mesmerizing...thousands upon thousands of bats flying above our heads as dusk fell. It's much more fun than it sounds. You've gotta try it to believe it. more

Where to see the Austin Bats 8/16/2005

I went on this cruise with my girlfriend for our anniversary a few weeks ago. The boat is older with older chairs and tables, but not too over packed. The captain is very knowledgeable about the city of Austin and the bats for that matter. We saw 1.5 million bats fly from Congress bridge as the captain explained about their history. It’s BYOB, so don’t forget the beverages to keep you cool. A great Austin experience more

Go here to see the bats! 7/8/2005

Being that I live in Austin I thought that going on a bat tour would be lame and touristy. However, our guide on LoneStar was very friendly and gave us lots of info on Town Lake and bats that I didn't even know. When it gets closer to bat time they take you right up to the bridge where the bats literally fly over you head...it was amazing. If you do go on LoneStar, I recommend going in one of the smaller boats instead of the double-decker because you can see a lot better in the small one. more
